Exercise is one of those things that's critical to life itself and longevity. Have to prioritize it and realize that it's just as essential to your day as making your bed, drinking water, and having breakfast.
As far as diets go... I much prefer to look at it as a way of life. To engage in a diet only to give it up some time later and watch as you slowly undo the results of the consistency you had... it seems fruitless. Perhaps getting yourself to eat right and exercise is very hard at first, but it is one of the easiest things to maintain.
