There is no such thing as luck. As someone else stated... luck is being prepared when the opportunity comes.
And opportunity does come to everyone - it might not be recognized by everyone, but it is there. For example - we have given Retire Young Retire Rich to many people. Some people were able to pick it up and run with the knowledge. Other people were not able to recognize the opportunity (knowledge contained in the book that was given to them) and continue to live life in the same way they always have.
Destiny? I guess I don't know what destiny means. "Destined" to be poor or rich? Absolutely not. Your life is what you make of it. No one lives the charmed life in which they are immune to bad things happening. It is what you do with those bad things that will shape your future.
I am a cancer survivor. As a result, I am not able to have any more children. I mourned my loss deeply. I gave up a calling (to be a midwife) because of the pain of my loss. But, I came out on the other side with a new appreciation for what I have and a new plan to be a foster parent.
My plan may be different as a result of my cancer treatment. I may have lost something I thought I would have... but my life is richer because of it. It opened doors that otherwise would not have shown themselves to me.
So... to anyone that feels they are trapped in a life of poverty I say, screw that. You have opportunities to change your life everyday. Open your eyes so that you see them, and then start taking action.
