This is related to an Apache/Nginx + PHP setting. It could be a simple fix, like turning up memory_limit in a config file, or it could be that you've reached a limitation based on 32 bit binaries but require more than 4GB to run at peak times, or you may simply not have enough physical memory to execute some peak-time queries. You'd have to look at the server configuration and know something about the machine(s) this forum runs on.
If a query requires more memory than Apache/Nginx + PHP lets it have, it will return an error. Basically it's saying "I can't store the answer to your question long enough to dump it on a page for you."
Or, "what did I go into the kitchen for again?"
Most likely, if it keeps happening, it will be at peak times when someone does a query that takes a lot of memory... typically a search or export.
