Hey everyone, I'm looking into choosing the best e-commerce provider and wanted to see what everyone else's experience is with this regards.

I will be selling less than 50 products on the site, under $100 each item.

I've heard really good things about both BigCommerce and Shopify, however BigCommerce comes out ontop with no transaction fees and excellent customer service (same as shopify).

A big factor that I am also looking at is SEO, which platform is better and any other suggestions or experiences are welcomed.

    Thanks!

Thanks Vick. I agree with the 2nd link from my readings that Shopify is just so easy to use. However, if you have a bit of technical know how and want more features, BigCommerce is a great solution.

A great analogy is Shopify is the Apple of E-commerce Platforms and BigCommerce is like Android. One is restrictive in design and features but you can use right out of the box. The other is fully unlocked but you need to have some technical knowledge of how to utilize the platform.

The first link doesn't coincide with my readings as Volusion doesn't have great customer or technical support, but is ranked #1. I have also never heard of Shopping Cart Elite and Ashop Commerce, but somehow they are ontop of BigCommerce. I'll look into those two in more detail to see if those reviews are accurate though.

Take a look at Shopping Cart Elite, they have the most sophisticated tools around, they're more expensive, but they have a Threat and Engagement Analytics software that lets you tweak the crap put of you adwords and SEO. It can tell which users are engaged and which are not so you don't buy bad keywords. Shopping Cart Elite is VERY advanced compared to BC/Shopify/Etc. I'm looking into putting my stores on SCE soon.

I just took a look at Shopify and BigCommerce and the themes available really suck imo.

Not enough variety and as a person who doesn't know coding or design, I have NO idea how to make it look how I want it to look.

Back to the drawing board I guess. Will take a look at Shopping Cart Elite and other theme friendly e-commerce sites.

There are 1000s of templates for either platform if you are not a cheap ass and are willing to spend $100 on your "journey to millions."

Yep, what Kak said. Either learn (re-useable skill you will definitely use again in your online entrepreneurial activities) or pay.

More like 100s of templates. Not thousands.

I've found a reputable designer that modifies existing themes and customizes it to how you want. Much cheaper way than paying thousands to start from the ground up.

When I was setting up the site for our shoe company I looked at both. Do the math on Shopify's fees. That 1% can add up to a pretty big number if you start doing any kind of volume, which if you are bothering to do all the work to setup a store, you must be assuming you will.

We are happy with BC, but a very basic site with simple products.

I would recommend Shopify for the amount of products that you have. Their E-commerce design templates are way better and so is their customer service and support. Here is an article about the two platforms side by side that might be helpful Shopify vs Bigcommerce.

I am using shopify and I love it. It has been one month since I signed up but I like the platform.
One bad thing is that the checkout process is too long; only because of that, I am considering into building my own e-commerce store in the future.
I believe that you can start with any of these 2 platforms and get used on how to generate traffic and digital marketing; and slowly migrate your stores into your own platforms as you start getting revenue in order to maintain control.
But that's my oppinion, I believe there are a lot of people who have several stores in platforms and do well on them.

I used Bigcommerce for about a year. I ended up not renewing and built my own site on Wordpress and Woocommerce. For the volume I was doing it wasn't really worth for me to pay Bigcommerce. Now I feel like we have more options and a more open platform. More plugins / control etc. I think as we start to grow I might give Shopify a go but for now Woo is good for us.

Hey DBXI, I have a similar question. If I am testing a niche product on Amazon FBA, should I go with Wordpress Premium or Business? I plan on using my landing page and Instagram as my main marketing channels, but am confused about the right way to test the market. I plan on having 10-15 SKUs at most right now.

If you are testing on Amazon FBA that's all you would need. Get your product ready, get FNSKU labels on the package and ship it into FBA. Make sure your product is solid. Work on optimizing your listings with good photography and copy, get a few reviews, turn on advertising, and see how the market takes your product. I wouldn't worry about your own ecommerce channel until you have established a couple of winning products through FBA. When you are ready and want to try Wordpress make sure to go with the open .org version and not the .com closed version. Take a look at woocommerce. Later you could move to Bigcommerce or Shopify. Just remember to test your products in the smallest quantity possible to keep your risk low. Read all of biophase's and walter hay's threads / posts as well.

I've only used shopify and it's great. Their customer service is out of this world.

BigCommerce, Woocommerce and Shopify are the 3 largest eCommerce companies right now. Shopify would be the largest of them all at the moment and, in my experience and opinion, the best. Woocommerce is okay, it uses Wordpress but it's certainly better than BigCommerce. I would just use Shopify as it is the best.
