Here's my rule of thumb -- If you don't get it together by the time you're 40, you ain't gonna! And those who don't make that transition, die young of really stupid stuff -- mostly self-inflicted.

Not true at all. Not even close.....

Do you think life is over at 40? At 40 you still have 25+ years to actually LIVE and appreciate it. Now if you haven't got it together by the time you are 60..... go find someone 60+ that has it together and just ride their coat tail the rest of the way. But personally, at 60, I'll still be trying new things. Even if I live to 90, if I think of a business I want to start, I'll give it a try. I won't be done until I'm done.

Around 26. Something just clicks. I guess by that time you have experienced most of what life has to offer at least for me. The newness that comes from childhood and your teenage years goes away. You already had sex, got drunk, owned a car, make your own money, live by yourself etc. At least for me once I experienced most of that I started to see things differently and my priorities shifted to living a more balanced life.

I don't know what that really means.
It sounds like "I've done it, I'm a made man, game over" and that's never how life looks like.

I started being financial independent (location independent + recurring stream of online income from Amazon) at the age of 24, but then life is not only about money. It's ups and downs all the time.

If you make $5 million profit a month, but your health sucks, you don't have time for anything but growing your company and your family hates you, do you have your shit together? Isn't that the person with perfect health, body, amazing family and a simple job that they really like has their shit "more together"?
I think it's really personal.

which ironically happened because I wanted to be more successful with women.

Actually, that's very common. Successes with women or lack thereof, depending on where I was in life, were a powerful drive for most my actions in life :D And I know many guys who had it like that

I see it as a series of clicks. When I was 30 I thought "OMG I'm enlightened compared to when I was a know-it-all 20 year old!"

Now I'm about to turn 40 and wondering why that 30 year old thought he was so smart ;)

I started diving deep about three years ago!

At 22 I was just sick and tired of being sick and tired

Not too long after that I think I had my FTE. I was sitting and drinking alcohol in a game change I got from a thrift shop. And I saw my neighbor that was always up and about. The beer made me really fat, and I remember drinking in my drunk state. "Is this going to be my whole life?!?" Dad died from alcohol abuse. I couldn't take it.

Now I go to the gym. Meditate. Make ten calls a day just for personal. And am building a skill. Not sure how to make these habits stick but in due time. I think the book atomic habits might help. I have a cheat sheet from that book. (Free online btw) - Just search up Atomic Habits cheat sheet. Straightforward and productive! Anyway, I'm getting off topic.

I’m 22 right now
I saw this post title and immediately thought "It would be funny to say 30 and that I'm 26 right now" and then found out I posted it years ago.

I think it was when I was around 26. When I started to feel like a grown up. That was the beginning.
I made a decision and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

The way the question is worded asks when you started. I started digging my way out of poverty at 17. Headed the direction of unscripted at 37. I did try to start a business at 22 though. Didn't fail but had a job offer that I liked at the time.

"getting your shit together" is a very vague term.

I "STARTED" getting my shit together, in my opinion, at 23. It was the time when I started to chase women. I did not hav any idea about women at that time. I started reading stuff, moved in with my friends to get inspiration etc.

At this point in my life, I had a masters' degree in engineering, a safe job in the university as a research assistant and I was also living in the first world. I had 25k debt with 1-2% interest. I did not smoke, did not do weed or drank alcohol. I probably had my shit together in comparison to a lot of people here.

But I was a virgin, I had no clue about what to do with my career and I did not have any goals at all.

I am 30 now and I STILL HAVE NOT GOT MY SHIT TOGETHER. I have 10-20k in the bank, but that is not a lot of money. I work as an engineer in railway industry. I halved my debt. I started one Amazon FBA venture with failure.

- I like my work, pays me 3.3k which I save about 50-60%, but more money would be a lot more convenient. I have health insurance, unemployment insurance I finished my PhD as well.
- I reduced my debt and I am going to pay it completely until I become 32.
- I had a lot of chicks, they were not models but they were cute, kinky next door chicks. I did a lot of kinky stuff and I still do. I have a gf now, she is quite open-minded and I love her openness.

BUT

- I still have 17k debt.
- I still do not have that much "F*ck you" opportunities. I have 30 vacation days a year but it is not as much as I wish it is.
- I still do not have another source of income other than my paycheck and measly dividends.
- I am still living in a shared flat, although it is going to change soon.
- I still do not know who "that girl" is.

I STARTED at 23, but do I "have my shit together" at 30? Hell no.

I have got a lot of stuff covered though and I am only grateful for it.

I would say, stop wishing for "completion of difficulties" because you will never have that. You live, because you are challenged enough. There is never an end. Stop seeking for it. Focus on growth instead.

For me it was once at 21 when I quit playing video games. Thats what launched me into a whole new world of personal development, reading and improving myself.

I just had another great pivoting point about 2 months ago (age 25). This time it was due to my job (I work in the chemical industry) and I had a few occasions where I thought I was going to die.

Those experiences made me realize how valuable life is and how silly I am for not actually executing on any of the theory I taught myself the last 3-4 years through personal development.

In the last 2 months I have executed and achieved more than I ever have in the 4 years of personal development before. I currently dont read anything, I only execute. If I reach a point where I dont know what to do, I google the topic and go straight back to execution. Currently im working on releasing my first real product, it will be done in around 1-2 months.

I think we will have many enlightening experiences and points where we wake the F*ck up and realize whats important to do in life. The important thing is to act and listen to those moments when they arise, which they will for everyone.

Society and the script will try to convince you that you should not embark on the journey, but you must.

Best,
Champion

Life IS over at 40 IF you don't have your head together. And the younger you start, the better off you are. I'm 65 1/2 years old and I'm still going strong. Many of the guys I left behind in the dust at 40, and younger, aren't around to talk about anymore. And that was the question. No, life doesn't end at 40 IF you have your life going. I am a lot more successful now than I was when I was younger. I figure I have about 20 years left and I want to make them wonderful.

And what triggered it? (A FTE?).

For me it was at the age of 19 when the first ball started rolling, which ironically happened because I wanted to be more successful with women.

I'd say when I started to work the way I always wanted, I was about 38. But in my case, lots of things have happened. I bought a house, sued my bank (and settled), changed countries which basically kicked off my life anew... All that happened before I was 38.

Now with no debt, and having enough money for about 2 years (and growing, hopefully), can I say I have my shit together.

Also, there wasn't really a trigger. I always had the mindset outlined in MJ's books, I just didn't have the chance to pursue it, because life happened. But as I got older, I realized that ageism is VERY real in IT, and also I really had enough of corporate politics.

Sometimes I think people underestimate the fact that it's about the travel, not about arriving. I guess MJ calls this the process-event dichotomy. I now have a pretty comfy life but thriving for more. Living this kind of lifestyle while growing is the best I could imagine, even looking back I never regret anything I did so far. Life happens, and the most important thing is to push through while achieving your goals more and more. I never wished for winning the lottery, I wished for being able to push through life.

It's been an off and on thing for me, comes and goes, sometimes I'm untouchable and then I learn something new and then I have to get my shit together, like after I read the Fastlane".
Seriously, age 17, I got my girlfriend of two years pregnant, quite school to get away from my partying loveing "Non-FastLane" friends. The best news is I'm still married to the same gal for 41 years and five kids later. She is the absolute best thing that ever happened, I'm a multi-millionaire in that category. I did get my GED and never stopped reading /educating myself ever since.
So chose the red pill , but still love the blue pill:)

Call me a late bloomer. I started to get my shit together at around 50, when I decided enough was enough in the corporate world and decided to become a real estate agent. I'd had side-gigs before, but I never expected them to make me financially independent, and I was right.

Neither did real estate, but it introduced me to a whole new world, where I was responsible for what time I put into my business, my own self-development, and everything else that goes into creating a successful business. Until recently, I have chosen to play small, but twenty years of work on myself has finally positioned me to add real value. I'm still getting my shit together, at age 70.

Started to "get my shit together" at 17. Began diving into self-development at this age, starting with the whole "no-fap" movement, later getting a gym membership, then taking my future career more seriously (which at the time was acting).

Also had no clue how to talk to girls, so I found RSD which motivated me to leave my house and interact with strangers, more specifically, girls - that improved my social skills dramatically.

Had sparks of wanting to start a business at 18, but didn't want to let my acting dream fade to dust, so I convinced myself that acting was all that I ever wanted to do in my life.

Just before my 19th birthday I finished TMF . My world completely changed. Realised that I truly wanted to start a business, that I wasn't as passionate about acting as I had tried to convince myself.

At 19 I wrote down everything that I could about what my values were, what I wanted my life to look like, who I wanted my friends to be, my morals, my philosophies, my vision, my goals etc. Four themes constantly re-appeared: 1) Financial Freedom, 2) Travelling, 3) Family, 4) Writing.

Deciding that the first of these four things will help greatly with achieving all the others, I set my sights on getting exactly that. Started my first business at 19, and that's pretty much where I'm at today.

Wouldn't consider it having "my shit together" exactly, but it was definitely the start...

Good question, in my opinion from an outsider point of view I am a person who has his shit together but I am not even 30% there in my opinion (27 at the moment).

But the moment things started to click more often and got me in the right direction was around 23 years old.
