Having a hard time putting in words benefits of my time in service and my accomplishments. Businesses aren't interested in my ability to stack bodies obviously but I am unsure how to convey what accomplishments my leadership enabled.

I have a few questions. What job position are you targeting? Are you sending the resume to employers or are you only doing LinkedIn. Are you happy with the layout?

I send the resume out and apply on other sites as well, I just use LinkedIn because of the ability to Network. I'm aiming for a management position in security or a Key Account Manager position since that was my job prior. I'm not as concerned about the resume as I am the ability to Network and demonstrate value. I'm still new to the job world in away. Army life was simpler lol

From Military to Civilian: Resume Translation Here's a good link about translating MOS skills to civilian skills. There was a good website that I stumbled upon years ago that literally would spit out resume terms and civilian jobs for your MOS code... can't seem to find it.

Here's an except from my resume that I use.

United States Marine Corps
Landing Support Specialist
• Corporal, Non Commissioned Officer, Fireteam leader, CLR-45 B Co
• Lance Corporal, Meritorious (E-3) B Company Beach and Terminal Operations 4th LSB
• Ramp Boss in charge of offload of MPF Ship in offload of military rolling stock and cargo containers
• Served as warehouse manager, responsible for millions of dollars in equipment in Agadir, Morocco
• Prepared and tracked cargo and personnel for transport in support of The Global War on Terror
• Supervised equipment and vehicle staging for a joint military training exercise in the Sahara Desert

You want to take skills and show how responsible you are, your leadership, and your flexibility.

So, being a grunt fireteam leader would be something like.
  • Managed professional teams during high stress situations with rapid problem solving
  • Tasked with mentorship, evaluation, and grading of subordinants
  • Used planning and leadership to meet deadlines and objectives in efficient manner

You get the basic concept. Emphasize team leading, personnel management, and objection management and make it sound corporate.

I'll throw a bit of criticism about your LI profile.

When i read:
"My main goal would be to work for a digital marketing agency to really hone my skills "
I'm like :who cares about YOUR goals!
Also it sounds like you're being job hopper - get skills and move on.

As always, this opinion is not to bring you down, but to show you what might not work.
There are good threads on this forum about Copywriting and writing LI profile falls into that category.

Many (not all) recruiter agencies will take a kid with a ged pumping gas and put him on the phone. Decent money, and it erodes any cold call fears, if you have those.

I'm glad :)

I meant that it sounds like your main priority is to develop yourself and not your "to be" employer's business - and possibly as soon as you'd get the skills you would go away from the job.

This was my first reflection.

It's not bad to want to develop yourself but as a employer i would rather listen about how "my business" can be developed.

The Copywriting thing is (in part) about writing less about yourself and more about the reader.

I hope this time post is more clear :D

Hmmm...let's try AIDA

I'll break down the original profile write-up, as far as I can spot.
Perhaps we'd find some room to improve.

I'll toss in a few general examples, and put together a sample Linkedin profile on the spot, just to illustrate some tips you could try.

Grabbing the original Linkedin write-up...

ATTENTION
As a veteran turned academic, I currently work sales with DirectTV and AT&T and have an intense passion for sales and marketing,

Now, there's many ways to start Attention, but a well-used, common way that I see the Linkedin professionals do is to start with, 'I do X that provides Y results'

Now, if you remember MJ, that value has to be presented as HIGHER relative value. Which is to say that it shouldn't be just bread. It could be raisin-bread, corn-bread, etc.

Now, a quick search on Google tells me that your current post of 'Key Account Manager' means that you have to deal with important clients.

Go back to the army. Who's the most important 'clients' there?

Sergeants, captains, your officers.

And a quick search on bootcamp tales from Reddit tells me that the officers in the army can be quick erratic, unpredictable, or break usual norms on a whim. Sounds like client behaviour at times, isn't it?

The solution here is to try to understand their orders as much as possible, and see their full-picture- why they make hard decisions in strategic situations.

So, combine the army 'clients', plus your current job's clients, and you have something like this:

'I help confused sales teams nail down their clients' desires and objections, and assist them to get clients the effective solutions they deserve.

Sales can be a very troubling area, with troublesome pains like weak customer responses, poor deal terms, and slow follow-ups.

The good news is that my short stints in the Airborne Infantry, and in 2 industries (e-commerce and landscaping) has given me the insights needed to polish your sales processes for you.

INTEREST
....I've supplied my company with$ 200K+ in revenue in just a month, I have nothing but a desire to solve problems and grow.

I also run a small digital marketing business.

Benefits to my last two customers:

1.) Website traffic increased by 36.6%
2.) 43,543.21$ in revenue from increased traffic
3.) Concise communication

My main goal would be to work for a digital marketing agency to really hone my skills and support myself and my soon to be wife....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good to have desires to provide value, but what's the story behind it?

And on the main goal and support family? Mmmm.....

I think those achievement points you have made can go to the DESIRE component later.

So what do we fill in here, in the INTEREST column?

If I were the employer reading the Linkedin page, I'd look for the skills I need in a guy first, and then see as to what extent can he achieve with those skills.

So, you can put a bullet list of top 4-5 skills you can offer to the employer in question.

Continuing from the previous Attention section:

'Here's some insights and skills I can help you with:

X Cold/Warm calling and email planning and execution
X Online Sales channels optimization
X Sales team crisis management

X High-ticket sales pitch creation & follow-up '

DESIRE
Consider this section the 'sweetening'

Now here's where the achievements come in.
For the $200k and the website traffic increase, I'm going to assume it's either from your past lawn business, copywriting clients or e-commerce ventures, from looking at your threads.

For this example's purpose, I'll take e-commerce.

I'll write some stuff here, based on what I remember from your threads and sharing.

'Results?

Here are some notable ones...

X Streamlined online sales processes for a fashion e-commerce company to hit up to $200k revenue in a month.

X Won over a Chinese AliBaba company by sending them a free website upgrade for better conversion rates. With one single cold email, and one work sample.

X Structured a $500 white-paper for the Chinese firm, potentially netting them five to six-figures for their latest technical product launch '

OPTIONAL: You can go get some quotes or one-sentence testimonials from the people you've worked for before, such as freelance clients, your army officers and so on.

You can also put links to relevant portfolio. Off the top of my head, a google drive file with permissions allowed should do the trick.

Put them here, just before the Action column.

ACTION
This would be your call to action, be it an email address, phone number or Linkedin connect button
So far, there isn't any, so you can just put something like, 'Drop me a line at XXX email'

Basically, open the door to them.

Example:
'If you feel that I can bring such results to your sales team and process, feel free to drop me a note at XXX email.'

Combine ALL together for this sample profile:

As a sales manager, I help confused sales teams nail down their clients' desires and objections, and assist them to get clients the effective solutions they deserve.

What insights and skills do I offer?

Here's what I can help you with:

X Cold/Warm calling
X Online Sales channels optimization
X Sales team crisis management

X High-ticket sales pitch creation & follow-up

Results?

Here are some notable ones...

-Streamlined online sales channels for a fashion e-commerce company, hitting up to $200k in revenue within a month.

-Won over a Chinese AliBaba company by sending them a free website upgrade for better conversion rates. With one single cold email, and one work sample.

-Structured a $500 white-paper for the Chinese firm, potentially netting them five to six-figures for their latest technical product launch

If you like some of these results to belong to your sales team and processes, drop me a note at XXXemail, and I'll see what I can do to help you. '
