I'm sure it's not just me who gets these. Even when we're not in a worldwide pandemic, I get a certain number of troglodytes who want my products and services for FREE (note all caps because FREE is never spelled lower case apparently). But now they have a whole new set of reasons, and it seems a new clutch of trogs has been released from the caves of decrepitude. Here is some of the enlightened reasoning I've heard:
  • I'm poor now because of C0VlD-19, so you should have to give me your stuff for FREE!
  • I had stress for one month because of C0VlD-19, and paying for things would give me more stress.
  • I've been so busy because of C0VlD-19! Can I have it for FREE as compensation for the terrible things that have happened?
  • evErYOne'S dOinG iT... even the GovErnMent! Your products and services should be FREE!
  • It's horrible not to accommodate people for FREE when there's C0VlD-19!
  • I'm charging back this thing I bought 3 months ago because now there's C0VlD-19!
It's NOT, by the way, that I don't accommodate people who are actual customers, when they have problems outside of their control that my company can accommodate. I do! We have what amounts to a self-insurance fund for helping customers in a pinch. But our insurance has a troglodyte exclusion, alas, so the real money-grubbers will have to pay or go elsewhere.

Has anyone else gotten these? What are your best ones? Perhaps we can build a model of the troglodyte mind and inoculate ourselves against their enigmatic reasoning.

Thanks Rubby,
You've given me insight, my micro finance business will also endeavor to help my clients with problems outside of their control for free e.g death and critical sickness of a spouse, biological child, parent, brother and sister. As for C0VlD-19 we only have 35 confirmed cases in Zambia and it's not a very serious problem at the moment. But when the pandemic gets serious I'll see how best I can help my clients for free.

Ok, so this is not strictly what you are talking about but I'm dying to share it.

I'm doing a giveaway of a heap of chocolate at the moment to grow my instagram and received this reply to a promotional email.

Like first of all it's free to enter and you don't have to if you don't want to, second of all I don't care or I would have done a vegan giveaway, third, do you really think I'm going to listen when you type LIKE THIS, and fourth, they aren't even a customer they just signed up for my emails.

This email reminds me of why I should never deal with the general public, because my reply would have been "Why don't you f*ck off?" Which would probably ruin the whole good vibes thing.

My customer service lady deleted it and didn’t even say anything, I love her.

I was looking in the trash for another email and found it.

I’m tempted to do the same since she isn’t even a customer.

This wasn't something that somebody asked ME to give them for free, but it represents the same kind of enigmatic reasoning.

I had to steal this because it needs to be shared!!!

C0VlD-19 is showing you the facts that American capitalism has lied about. It’s showing how many of you support socialism when it’s convenient for you or the people you care for...

Children could’ve gotten laptops & free wifi this whole time.

Wifi could’ve been a utility this whole time.

Stores could’ve been allowing seniors to shop for one hour assisted.

Stores could’ve closed earlier to give stockers & cleaners proper time to stock & recover this whole time.

College students could have a frozen interest rate on student loans this whole time.

Pregnant women, disabled people & single parents could’ve worked from home this whole time.

Abandoned federal buildings could’ve been used for homeless people.

Students could learn from home instead of being suspended for a lack of transportation to school this whole time.

Bill payment could’ve been furloughed this whole time.

Evictions for hard times could’ve been delayed this whole time.

Co-Pays & other out-of-pocket health provider fees could have been waived.

Not turning someone's electricity or water off in desperate times so they can survive could’ve happened this whole time.

Airfare could’ve been cheaper this whole time.

Sick people could have been encouraged to take time off & given paid time off to care for themselves.

The bottom line is...

Humanity could’ve been humane this whole time.

This was shared by a friend of mine on Facebook. Someone squarely on the sidewalk. It got 31 likes/loves and 21 shares.

I've been scratching my head over this ever since she shared it 2 weeks ago.

To me, this represents a severe lack of critical thinking. Someone is not connecting the dots. People actually think this is good reasoning, that we "could have had all this free stuff this whole time!"

Do they not realize the immense cost of all the measures that are being taken?

Where do they think that money comes from?

And in 3-6 months, when the economic after-effects are in full swing, will they realize that giving out all this "free stuff" was the REASON that the country is in dire straits?

This country is engaging in an unsustainable experiment. We've rearranged everything to try to hide from a virus. Survival has eclipsed every other priority for the moment.

And the cost will be far larger than my friends on the sidewalk can possibly imagine.

As much as I'm puzzled and confused by their logic, it mostly just makes me very, very sad.

Several clients have said they are putting their retainer on pause for the month when it's already the 20th or later. They expect not to be billed for that month, even for work delivered before they knew what COVID was...

It's a joke.

You're right, there's no critical thinking involved. They're pursuing their "everything is free for me" and "woo socialism" thing with religious vigor.

They won't think it through, they won't understand what the problem is 6 months from now, and if the economy crashes and burns all the way down they'll blame it on "greed" or some other moral judgement.

These are mental short-circuits people use to avoid thinking about the constraints of reality. Reality dictates that if you expend all of your energy and resources and get nothing in return, you starve.

These people assume a magical "someone" in government can overcome that reality. Or perhaps they don't care, as long as enlightened people such as themselves are taken care of using other people's labor and resources. They seem to have no problem asking you and everyone else to starve so that they can have everything for free.

Ugh. And I'm sure they try to make you sound like the unreasonable one. "You can't seriously mean to charge for services rendered during a pandemic!" Sorry to hear it :(

I haven't had that (yet), but people in professional services get this all the time. In my line of work, custom software, people have a complete lack of understanding about what goes into building a piece of software. They think that because they can buy Office for $400, that something simpler should cost less than that. When they find out that you need to add a few zeros for something that's 1000 times less complex than Office, they freak. They don't realize that Microsoft has spent 30 years and many billions of dollars developing it. And no, we can't duplicate Google's spreadsheet software online for a few thousand dollars either. Their top devs make millions per year. Ours, don't.

I wrote a blog post on my company website about this actually. Here's the picture from that post:

Off topic, but this reminds me of a little way that some quarantined people are entertaining themselves by recreating famous works of art at home.

I'm with Roli, that's the first thing I would have thought to do. lol

I continue to see this..... home made face mask $3. Then all these idiots get on there and tell the person to donate them. So what I've started doing is this.....

Since you feel it would be a great thing for these to be donated, how many would you like to buy at only $3? You buy atleast 100 of them, I'll go pick them up and deliver them to where ever in the metroplex that you would like them donated to. That way the person gets paid back for their material and a little extra for their time, you satisfy yourself for wanting to donate it and I help out a low IQ person so we are all happy. So please let me know when (name of person complaining) pays you through Facebook and I will go pick them up. Be sure and ask where (person complaining) wants them donated to.

They are tempting me to go smash their face in. Or, the people that have been on there couponing and selling a bundle of things for way under retail price for 5 years and now some idiot wants to say they are hoarding and how much of a low life they are. I wish they would all line up in a row so I could slap the hell out of them!

My wife wondered why I left the neighborhood group and I told her I left before I started telling the truth about the low IQ people in our neighborhood and people started hating our household.... so it was best I left before I made the 1st comment. She said..... go ahead, who cares? lmao

Ok, I feel a little better now :innocent: :halo:

I love this thread... I feel like most of the world's capitalsts are only fair weather capitalists. As soon as some shit hits the fan, they shame each other and accuse each other of taking advantage of one another...

The reality stands as always. The market, given a profit motive, solves problems. Fair weather capitalists should be shit hits the fan capitalists.

Free?

If they are genuine why not pay 30 percent and 70 percent on interest free credit?

Ha ha...I'm spoiled on European Chocolate's. What kind of chocolate you giving away? I did a chocolate presentation in my Presentation Class years back and gave them a Hershey's Chocolate Bar and a Dutch Brand and they argued during my speech it couldn't be true the Dutch tasted better. So at the end of the class, they agreed it beat the All American Chocolate Bar.

They have credit cards.

The people I'm talking about believe they are entitled to your work, your product, your time, for free, or they claim to believe that. They do not want to pay anything.

They act shocked when you say you have prices.

Some will even even argue at length if you don't tell them to take a hike, claiming that your costs are (surely!) super low (because they know all about it), and the effort of your services is obviously trivial (because they aren't the ones who have to make an effort), and it is clearly immoral for you to offer your services to market at the prices you offer them (because they deserve everything for free).

It's not uncommon for these types to come out of the woodwork after a disaster... like termites I guess. They've waited all this time, and now it's their bonanza.
