As a franchisee, what services/sites did you use for market research?

I know there is a plethora of free information, but when it came to market research, did you ever find any good affordable competitor analysis information? I am interested in understanding regional revenues, competitors in the area, area demographics, etc.

For those who have worked with brands that provide location assistance, what were their main requirements?

For those who worked with brands that didn't help as much on this end, how did you go abut researching this?

You'll want to work with your local SBA chapter. They basically hold your hand throughout your franchise search. If you are a veteran, there are certain franchises that prefer selling to you and many that will give you a discount of up to 5K or so.
As far as market research/demographics, the franchise has that knowledge. You'll want to connect with a franchise you are interested in and ask them about your area or the location you are interested in. The sales people have tools that calculate average household income and housing values etc.

Here are the three resources below you should start with. You can contact them though their sites; just tell them you are interested in purchasing a franchise. Keep in mind, you'll need liquid capital or CASH along with a loan if thats the route you are going. If you are a veteran the SBA SCORE will back up a loan for you, making you attractive as a buyer.

Then take a look at some SCORE articles on franchising if you want more information on franchising:

Here are a few franchise consultants you can talk to.

Hope this helps.
