TLDR: When you use 3rd party frameworks you might be giving up (C)ontrol of your project.
Disclaimer: I'm not a web developer, so I might be confused about this.
Apache Foundation and Facebook in Standoff Over React.js License
If I understand this correctly, Facebook released their ReactJS library so web-developers could more easily make GUI's for websites. In their License, they use "BSD+patents", and the "+patents" is the tricky part. In that rule, if you sue Facebook for any patent violation, you lose the right to use their React Framework. The Apache group was already starting to use React in their software, and now they have to rip it all out.
Another big question is how this will affect Wordpress. They have been working on picking either Angular or React to use as a new GUI for Wordpress, they were leaning towards React. Now they are also stuck. They had expected Facebook to loosen their React license when The Apache Group objected to it, but Facebook instead doubled-down.
So Wordpress is in limbo, and are now making their discussions about it private. Since Angular is too heavy, they are also looking at VueJS. VueJS is developed by a single guy, so it is considered under-manned. The PHP Laravel project recently chose to standardize on VueJS.
WordPress Core JavaScript Framework Debate Heats Up, Contributors Narrow Discussion to React vs. Vue
My guess is, whatever Wordpress chooses will become a kind of standard. I am hoping Wordpress and Apache will start using VueJS, and that the guy developing it will expand the development to a core team. If that happens, Laravel, Wordpress, and Apache will have set the standard for web-app GUIs.
