Anyone here ever start a bank? Operate a bank?

I have an idea and wanted to hear what the process of starting a state bank was like in your state. Any takers?:thankyousign:

No experience with State Banks
but I did work for a while in a small merchant bank.
We would buy receivables from companies
and do some small lending.

But this was in Canada.
Let me know if any of that info would be useful
and I'll share what I can.

I know a girl that worked at a bank that had branches only in the WORST parts of town. She said they did not make money on loans, and had no interest in giving them. Instead they made money on penalties and small fees because they could depend on people in these ares not being responsible and contantly overdrafting, etc. All they wanted was to open accounts. They did not really care how small. In fact, smaller is better because it makes it easier to overdraft. Then you get slammed with a huge fee. I asked her "what if they just quit banking?" She said they don't. They usually paid the fees.
