Anyone here do 3D models?

Hello,
I did a search but last posts I can find are back from 2014 and 2015 so was curious if anyone here now does 3D models? I have a simple product idea that I want to get pricing on manufacturing but everyone I've contacted on alibaba wants a design first before they will quote or are throwing out crazy numbers like $6k for a mold based off my description.

Side note for anyone who has gone through this you can post here or PM me if you have someone you would suggest for this task and a rough idea of costs for your mold when you went to production. Product would be silicone and aprox 1/2" thick and 3"x4" so nothing too crazy.

Sounds like you need a 3d model. Rending is when you make a faux view of your model in it's intended environment. Once you have a model you can make mechanical drawings from it which will show your manufacturer how to make your part.

You are right. $6K for a mold that size is crazy. If it is a multi cavity mold for high volume production that might be a different matter, but even a 4 cavity mold would cost less than that.

Some silicone moldings are made in simple gravity filled molds, not requiring injection molding. Such molds cost peanuts. It depends on the type of product you are producing.

If you care to PM me with a description and maybe a rough sketch, I can most likely tell you what type of mold is needed.

Download a trial version of solidworks, solidedge, or inventor. Alibre and ironcad are options too.

You should be able to do a few tutorials and do what you need in a weekend.

(Pm if you want to pay a whole bunch of money to have a professional do it.)
Though you should be able to do it on your own.

That's not a bad quote...for a good mold. Refer to @Walter Hay for more details!

It is though, a bad quote for a poorly made, single shot, low tolerance, pot-metal mold.
