Creating more room in your head for new and better ideas ?

I used to spend insane amounts of time thinking about a project (scenarios of failure and excuses being the dominant thought - almost as if my brain was working against me) without actually doing it.....And I feel like this did not allow any room for new ideas to come in, and until I took action on that project I essentially wasted precious time "thinking about failure" and due to my mind being occupied with that I blocked myself from any new ideas coming in. And when I finally did something and even if I fell flat on my face, ESPECIALLY if I fell flat on my face, it INSTANTLY allowed me to see if the idea was worth keeping working on or I stopped thinking about it and some new and improved idea popped up in my head to try right away.

TL;DR Taking action strips your mind of useless thinking about failure, and even if something does not work out you can now disregard it as inessential to your life, and your mind will come up with a new idea to try, and continue like that until you find something that works for you.

Can anyone relate to this and share how taking action allowed for more creative ideas to flow in for you ?

Absolutely. I'm learning quite a lot about being creative in my current job now, which I think will really help me in the future. I noticed that if you go ahead with one idea and try it, then along the way you can easily pick up loads more ideas from the feedback of colleagues, customers or whoever. And before you know it you have 3,4,5 different angles to take something at.

I have used that technique recently when trying to come up with something new / re-cycled with a better twist. And I am finding it seems to work. So now from one idea I have several 'good' ones which I can start to get the wheels moving in the next month or so.

Wow.. I was thinking of this EXACT same thing like a few seconds before I saw this thread! lol

I noticed if I hesitate, it causes the mind to come up with all sorts of BS to not do anything, and it thereby kills momentum. Just by taking action, new possibilities/opportunities/awarenesses open up and quite often it prevents such BS from ever emerging at all.
