4th Quarter in the Brick & Mortar world is the "make it or break it" time of the year -- for most businesses. 4th quarter is when many of the holidays happen: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Jewish Holidays, etc. Most of these are gift giving and gift buying holidays. A lot of companies make most of their money during the 4th quarter of the year.

January thru May is "okay" since there are other holidays like Mother's Day, Graduations, Father's Day (though no one ever buys much for Father's Day -- so go figure that one out). I'm basing this on marketing research that newspapers have done for major advertisers. The 4th quarter of the year is the big "money maker" time.

4th Quarter on the internet ends about two weeks before Christmas due to shipping factors. After a certain point, you can't guarantee that someone will get the item before Christmas, and a lot of people won't want to buy without the guarantee of getting the item before Christmas.

We are currently in 4th Quarter. How are your sales? They should be doing quite well at this point. Towards the middle of November, they should be going gangbusters (providing you sell "gifty items"). This is the time of the year when a lot of companies make 50%+ of their income! For some companies, like toy companies, jewelry companies, etc -- you could be looking at the time of year when you should be pulling in 70% of your annual income!

Summer is a very very bad time for most merchandisers. The only people who do well going into (and I mean May, June) Summer are people who sell swimming pool supplies, grills, patio furniture, etc. Real summer merchandise.

There is a pattern to retail sales. Newspapers paid millions of dollars to figure out what the pattern was and I've explained part of it above. Some industries have hardly any sales in the winter (like swimming pool contractors and bikini manufacturers) while others have no sales in the summer.

There are NO industries that sell without any variation across all months -- they all have up and down months and seasons.

If I can get my hands on some current market research, I'll come back here and report -- but in the meantime -- MAKE YOUR 4TH QUARTER COUNT!!!! SELL EVERYTHING YOU CAN!!:hurray::cheers::hurray::banana:
