15 years ago, 6/10 Americans thought gay marriage was morally wrong. Now, the majority approve. While I don't think the sea change will happen as quickly with porn because of the cognitive dissonance referenced earlier, it's worth noting that public opinion changes. And I don't use public opinion to determine my own feelings on the issue, considering it was illegal for me to have consensual sex in my home state (until 2003) or get married (2015) due to popular opinion just a few years ago.

Arab countries often have very high rates of porn consumption (mainly on VPNs) by the way, and lower rates of divorce are often because women are not allowed to ask for a divorce, it can only be initiated by the husband. Not to mention the societal pressure to stay married when women often lose access to their children, their standing, and the papers they need to make a living if they are to divorce. So I don't really consider statistics on divorce to be a marking of happy marriages.

As the only person in this thread that actually was a woman in the industry: I was a model (only softcore) and dancer in the adult industry at 19-22 and I'm now in my 30s and I don't regret my time working in the industry. I dislike that society told me that was the highest value I had. I hate those darn 8" platform shoes.

But I put myself through school and got a debt-free degree (thanks to that, the pell grant, and my AmeriCorps award). I ended up becoming a tax preparer specializing in dancers (Don't Lose Your Pants: a Strippers Guide to Taxes), who often should become S-Corps, and I helped a LOT of my fellow dancers start saving for retirement in their early 20s and come out of the dark with the IRS so they could buy houses or otherwise meet their goals. I also was able to get paid as an expert witness and teach two college classes on the economics of dancing. I think my time was valuable. Also I got very flexible.

Porn in the USA: Conservatives are biggest consumers

I've no say in this debate but it would seem that moral standpoints over adult content is often more of a public mask than a personal conviction.

That was literally one of the dumber articles I have read.

Fat people drink water
Fat people are fat
Water makes you fat

The ridiculous conclusion is the ultimate in confirmation bias with literally zero facts to make the correlation.

lol yup...

There is a .3% difference in porn related credit card charges between some states (but not all) that also happened to vote more for Romney in 2006 compared to other states that generally voted more towards Obama....

so... conservatives watch more porn!!?

That is some of the loosest drawn conclusions I have ever seen.

The guy from the AMA deleted all his comments. Here's an archive link to the AMA for anyone interested:

IamA porn site owner. AMA! | BestofAMA

He makes a little under 75k profit per year from the business while working 1 hour a week. Still has to work web dev contracts to cover his living expenses.

That's pretty good from a time/money perspective. It's still a "replace your mid-level job" income. Not the kind of "F*ck you" you money that some of the posters seem to be alluding to in this thread.

His business model is to license the clips from studios, puts them on his website, and handle the payment. He gives the studio a percentage of the sale.

Some of the quotes about the type of porn include:
"an elephant seal and a tourist"
"motorized toothbrush"
"A lot of it is pretty revolting"
"FinDom (financial domination) Fart porn / flatulence Hiccups Giantess."

Yeah, not really the kind of stuff I'd want to mention with potential business partners or business peers. He also said that everyone knows him as, "The guy with the porn site."

That kind of stuff becomes an anchor that you have to drag around the rest of your life. Is it worth dragging around that anchor for $75k/year?

It's not worth it to me.

The higher rate in conservative states (really it was just Utah) could easily be explained by socially liberal people living in socially conservative areas purchasing porn because they need a release due to casual sex being more difficult. That didn't fit his preconceived conclusion/bias though (or the news article omits that part).

I'm bored with this topic and choose to dwell on the positive so I will leave you all to this thread. Best of luck to all. @Kak really isn't interested either.

Business and personal ethics are actually extremely important when it comes to making real money. Intergenerational money. You will find that the truly successful have a long term vision. They don't want to get involved in crooked dealings, and do business with questionable people to make a quick buck.

Decades ago upholding a good name was something people would never dream of departing from. It still holds up in wealthy circles. I can tell you, at least in my industry, that being an ethical, man of my word has gotten me tremendously farther than the alternative, a scorched earth, screw you money now mentality.

I would have nothing if it wasn't for my team's early belief in my vision and leadership. I wonder how far I would have gotten conducting myself like you... The answer is probably stuck in my parents basement running a 30k per year porn "empire."[/QUOTE
This was what I was taught in my community by leaders. Stand for something they always said. If

Since non of us are planning (I think) on being sex workers then any view at porn is going to be as an owner/producer... I just don't see any upsides.

That same skill set is going to produce so much more returns in nearly any other kind of online business. The exact same skills (video production, SEO, finding a niche, paid traffic) could be used in a ton of other ways that have a way higher chance of taking off.

It just seems like one of the worst industries to pick. Plus look at the reaction to people on this thread. Do 5 years in porn and then try switch to X unrelated industry. Like it or not people are going to want to avoid the image you are carrying over. You might be fine with it but 70% of people are not (even if they use it privately) so your possible business connections are going to go way down.

Good business is smart business and it just doesn't seem like a very smart industry to be involved in. The potential for something to go sideways real fast seems huge. Web design has its bad days but my computer isn't at risk of catching HIV and suing me.

Morals aside it seems like a very low chance / super high risk business to be getting involved in. The examples of business owners who have done well seem to be the exception, not the rule.
Great comment, loved it. Good business is smart business.

Services that handles credit card processing and banking for smaller porn sites - this is HUGE issues within the adult industry and having a "stripe for porn" would make a huge difference because dealing with chargebacks and even just finding banks and CC processors that will work with you is a nightmare

I'm interested to hear what you think about Verge coin's partnership with Pornhub.

The coin itself has had its recent troubles, however I'm wondering if you think that it (and other cryptocurrencies like it) could solve the problem you mention above?

I wish that folks wouldn't think womens' only value is our relation to others. It would be nice to be seen as humans capable of making our own choices and having value in our own right. No one seems to be emphasizing "that's someone's son" despite the fact that most porn out there is hetero or dude-on-dude porn meaning there are a pretty large proportion of models/actors who are male.

(And, topically, having sexuality in our own right. Because it couldn't possibly be cool to get paid for having sex! Because we're women who could only possibly get into this industry by coercion!)
Choice comes with responsibility. There are consequences to every choice that you make.

You talk about value. What value are you bringing?

Your choices do affect other people. Not just yourself.

Hey, I wasn't calling you sexist. I was saying that the general tone in here seems to view women as victims in this industry without accounting for the fact that many of us get into the industry to make money. No one has made any statements saying "this is someone's son" only daughter.
I think this has more to with females are the "weaker sex" while males are the "disposable/expendable sex"

We over protect females at the same time we think they're "less capable". We know the world is a very dangerous place for them. This mentality really goes back to hunter/gatherer times. In terms of Human History, modern society is a tiny speck.

Just as with technology, roles are changing fast. Just as in natural selection, it takes time for change to happen.

Sure not every woman goes into the sex industry as victims and they do it for money but then society considers it to be greedy and selfish.

Money is also a relatively new concept in human history. Just because a guy goes up to a woman and tells her, "I make a kazillion dollars. Marry me!" Does not mean she will go for it. That's not how it works.

There has to be a greater why. What's the purpose? Are you single mom trying to provide for her kids? Are a college student paying your way through school?

People on this forum are intrigued by MJ DeMarco and his Fastlane because they don't want the 9-5, retire at 60 then die 10-20 years later.

MJ once said that to be an entrepreneur means to bring value to the people. I don't see the value in that but just the opposite!

The key to making money is the same as any business - providing value and filling a gap in the market - or offering value scew / an improvement.

To those who think "you can't make money in porn" here is a specific recent example.

Recently a company that takes japanese games and translates them into english started their company in 2014. In just over 3 years the company now has over 9 million users on it's platform and recently signed a deal worth tens of millions to expand its operations in South America. They've also partnered with PornHub to hold the worlds first "porn gaming competition" that the winner goes away with tens-of-thousands of dollars.

It's profit is not made public but it has recently invested 10 million into over 18 new titles and also is expanding into VR gaming porn.

And this was started in 2014. In just over 3 years they have 10 million to invest into more games. The gaming industry is now worth more than the TV, Movie, Sports, and any other entertainment industry in the world and they took a very small slice of it.

Most of it's games are "free to play" and it makes income off an in game economy that you purchase coins to buy things in the game.

The market doesn't care what you think "can't make money" - because clearly there is still untapped markets in this area that need to be filled. Thanks to those who think something that is biologically ingrained in every human is "immoral" it makes it easier for those of us who don't suppress our basic desires because of societal pressures easier to enter the market and take a small chunk of the cheese.

AirBnB the worlds largest property company owns no property.
Uber the worlds largest taxi service owns no cars.

Think outside of the box on how to make a once "unprofitable"
market profitable by changing the way you generate the income will become the new self made millionares and billionares.

Even MJ thought of a way to change how he monetized the business before he made his millions. It's not necessarily "oh it's free i'll never make money" it's "oh it's free, how can I make money"?

Having said that, I encourage EVERYONE to please stay out of this market. There is absolutely no money to be made here and you'd be wasting your time.

Where in the book is the part about value scew? I only have the audio version, so will save me 4 to 7 hours of listening.

So, are you saying that Internet porn isn't fastlane, because, it's "human trafficing"?

It certainly can be fastlane. But if it's "morally right", is another question, don't you agree with that?

You can buy millions of visitors with certain adult traffic brokers.

I actually think, Internet porn is one of the easiest ways to become a millionaire or multi millionaire, today.

But I agree, it's not for everyone.

I also agree that, 18 years old is too young of an age to get started in porn.

I think the age, should be restricted to be, at least 21 years old.

Here's how I see it. If a person has read MJs books and is a member here I should think he or she would be more than capable of starting a fastlane business without the need to peddle sexual immorality.

On another note, the author Wendy Shalt, in her book A Return to Modesty cited a study that male porn viewers ended up feeling less in love with their wives/girlfriends after viewing porn.

Please try keeping the conversation civil, thank u!!!

Post an INE on the INSIDE, really sounds like a great problem to solve, with big needs. And you can sleep at night. Maybe you can even go the same route Dave Ramsey did with finance, coupling it with Christianity or religion.
I'm going to solve the problem
