Hey all.

I'm in the process of creating a product and I'm working with manufacturers on a quote. Before I sign anything (especially since I don't really know I'm doing), I'd like a lawyer to look over any kind of contract.

I have attempted to utilize the Google function, but it's difficult to tell which reviews are legit and which are fake.

So does anybody in this area have an attorney that they can recommend? Feel free to PM me if necessary.

Thanks!

If you don't get a recommendation - just call a bunch of them up and ask if they work with other small businesses involved in overseas manufacturing and importing.

Go meet with whoever sounds the most confident / experienced based on your calls.

I'd rather deal with a lawyers I haven't heard of who do this shit daily over a well-recommended firm who doesn't fully understand what I'm trying to do.

Also worth noting - decide just where your line in the sand is for this stuff. If the lawyer says "it should read like this..." and your factory says "we sent you the agreement, take it or leave it", you need to know which choice you'll choose. You also might want to decide how far you'll go if they break their agreement. Will you take action against a Chinese firm that is trying to screw you? If it's a 100k order - probably. If it's $5k - probably not.

Having lawyers and being "in the legal right" is great, don't get me wrong, but like anything it's really only as good for as far as you're willing to defend yourself with it.

You may very well decide that the risk of losing it all is less than the cost to be right.
