You don't try to escape routine, you design it to fit your needs.

Feeling trapped in routine is what happens to people who live their lives on auto-pilot.

Take control.

Oh man, I love me a good routine.

One that fits what I want out of life. One that brings me closer and closer to my goals. One that gives me autonomy and control.

Yep, love a good routine.

how you escape from the daily routine?
Hi, I'm new to the forum and this post caught my eye.

I remember trying to escape the routine as well, and have tried in various ways. First, I went to teach English in Asia for years - the routine changed, but there was still a routine. Then, I went to work offshore on oil rigs. My routine changed to month on, month off. Now I run my own copywriting and web design firm, and there's still some degree of routine. In fact, I found I HAD to create a routine to be able to make consistent profits.

One of the dangers when you break free from the 9-5 is believing you can do what you want, when you want. This may be true if you have an income generating website or bestselling book, but for most businesses you need to make sure you put the business first and design your own routine.

Once the routine is built stick to it and make sure other people in your life know what to expect. This last point is important - I've had family members get mad at me for turning down invitations because they say 'But you can work when you want' - there has to be some sort of line or you will find yourself socializing more than working on your business.

Anyway, thanks and I look forward to reading and contributing more!

This is what I did.

I spent nine and a half years in what I like to call the "post-secondary phase of my education" where I mixed periods of university study with time spent in China and a few other places working and engaging in language study. Not everyone's cup of team, but time well spent for me.

During that time, I learned the skill of teaching language to children, so once I decided that it was time to finish the "post-secondary phase of my education" I applied to complete my bachelors degree and moved permanently to Beijing. I leveraged the skill I learned during the earlier period of my life to gradually move towards working just a few hours a day Monday to Wednesday and taking Thursday and Friday off altogether (from income earning work). By earning the bulk of my income just two days a week (Saturday and Sunday), I had a lot of time free on the other days of the week to engage in at least 3-4 hours of focused work on my own projects.

I'm just now nearly the finished line on the development of my first product, something that will help language teachers do their jobs easier and better.

Needless to say, the last several years have been far from routine. I've had the flexibility to pursue a lifestyle that fits my needs while having the time and energy to do the unroutine on a regular basis.

What can you do to change this? Ways to make your company more efficient, get a manager, hire employees?

Could you be more specific?

If there was a routine I wasn't happy with, I would make a new one.

Very interesting, mate! I have been thinking of both those businesses in recent times. Can you share more? While I understand you find it boring, is it at least worth it from a financial point of view?

this is the photo of my shop, if you open in a city where there are already many similar stores, you will not work much. Sports betting runs on percentages depending on how many events you enter, for example, if you bet on a single event, your percentage is 1% and goes up depending on the number of events in the bet. We can also record customers under my network to make an online game account where from home customers can play at the casino or poker, and the gain is different. on poker there is a 35% gain on the rake that customers in your network generate by playing monthly, for example at the end of the month you generated a rake of 1500 euros your gain is 525 euros, on the casino the gain instead it is useful if they have won more than they played it is not earning anything but if there is profit there is also a percentage of 35% on profits. the problem with this bussiness is that the market is now saturated at least here in italy and you do not earn enough. my work is disguised by bussiness I do not have the chance to hire staff I deal with my dad the store maybe I'm wrong business not to mention the negative factor that has to be opened every day because now there are sports events always

I'm just now nearly the finished line on the development of my first product, something that will help language teachers do their jobs easier and better.

I thought I was the one who is creating a project about languages. If you dont mind, may I ask which specifically you are creating? Is your project relate to learn a language fast or a way to make easier the process of language learning?

I've done the ESL thing before... problem being there are literally millions of English teachers and schools and a lot of them are online. This is not to say you can't succeed, but you are gonna' have to do something truly unique to stand out from the others already in the market.

Other languages may be different and less competitive, but then that also probably equals a smaller market.

Thanks for the reply. Have you thought of selling your business? Even if it isn't hugely profitable, most businesses can sell for x4 annual revenue with the idea being that someone can turn it around and make it more profitable. If you offer for less than that then probably you will find a buyer reasonably quickly.

Also - if you are in the shop all day and not hugely busy, could you open some sort of online business which you can work on while in the shop? Just a thought - killing two birds with one stone.

I would like to sell the shop, but for now I can not because I'm helping my dad because he's in big financial trouble due to debts accumulated years ago, my dad had two stores was a door and window dealer but things went wrong in 2011 and closed the shops.
now I'm looking for some new opportunities maybe an online business that allows me to do both of these things

Having a regular schedule could be an advantage, rather than a trap. Can you use any of that time to develop a side gig to replace your income from you current business? Then you could sell you shop and just do the side gig. Or, can you use any of your working time to learn a new skill that you can market? Again, you would be replacing your current income, to prepare to sell your shop. Can you use a portion of space for anything else to help up your income? Adjust your glass and look at your situation again. You might find an opportunity lurking in the corner.

Yes that's what I plan to do create something to make me have an alternate income from the store and then sell the store.

You're right. The english language is so spoken in all over the world as the teacher and english online courses. I am doing this with spanish language. This project would be dedicated to english speakers. I know how hard it could be because there are already many spanish courses, I've analyzed the market and it is still really big the demand for a very good spanish course. In my opinion it seems there isn't a big course that may be the best for spanish learners. If you dont mind, what kind of language project hast you tried to create? And what does ESL mean?

ESL means English as a Second Language :)

First I taught over in Asia for a few years. I then started teaching privately and got a small school of students. We migrated online, but found the competition was so fierce it simply was not really worth it.

We also once ran a site for teachers - providing resources and course materials. That did ok, but it was a much smaller market.

I think you will have a much better time in the Spanish market. I know some big companies like Rosetta Stone are already in there, but like you say there is ALWAYS room for something better than the competition. Good luck!

Thanks mate. It gonna take years to build an "empire" in this area. It requires so much analysis but I'm passionated about this project.
Just curious ... what project are you working on?

I'm creating materials and curriculum for use by teachers. At present, the materials are designed to be used to teach English, but they could be easily converted for use teaching other languages.
