Smoothies when made at home are very inexpensive, extremely healthy, low on sugar, quick and simple to make.

So why doesn't anyone make them?

I usually make mine with unsweetened almond milk, a scoop of protein (I use Vega One which is plant sourced protein), freshly ground peanut butter, and maybe a little bit of fruit - like a banana, pineapple, blueberries, depending if its after a workout or in the morning, etc. Sometimes some spinach or kale.

Takes me 2-3 minutes, probably costs me $3 each time I make it (only because Vega One has a high cost per scoop, like $2), and I am in freaking love with them.

I can tell you what's wrong with what's out there. Grocery store pre-packed frozen smoothies cost a lot and are loaded with sugar (and you don't know what else is out there).

Going to a smoothie franchise (like SmoothieKing) it can run you on the higher end of $6-$10.

Aren't we trying to trend towards a healthier America? I feel like there is an unsolved need out there, or perhaps people don't yet realize they need it. Am I biased from my own experience and healthy lifestyle? What tastes good to me might not taste good to Billy Bob Joe who eats 5 McDonalds hamburgers weekly and devours a side of medium fries to boot.

Looking for some input on this... any at all.

Not from U.S. but...I have a green smoothie almost every morning.

Here's what I add in:

-Spinach
-Half Avocado
-Banana
-Apple
-Kiwi
-Coconut Oil
-Chia Seeds

Really good stuff. I'm also thinking of starting juicing as well, but this might be overkill if I already get a smoothie daily.

My everyday smoothie which I make using the Nutribullet (highly recommend, so easy, no mess) is:

- Bananas (1)
- Blueberries (120g)
- Spinach (handful)
- Kale (handful)
- Ginger (2 inches)
- Carrot (1)
- Spirulina (teaspoon 5g)

I look forward to it everyday, such an easy way to get veggies in AND it tastes so good!

Try it out!

Americans like everything sweet and pretty. Pink or blue color smoothies with lots of great tasting sweet fruit thrown in.

I drink 2 smoothies a day because I don't eat my greens daily.

Kale
Pineapple or Red grapes
Some red apple
Lemon
Carrot
Tomato

250ml water
2 bananas
200g pineapple
100g blueberries
1 tbsp. flax seeds
1 tbsp. chia seeds
1/2 tbsp. peanut butter
2 whole eggs + 2 egg whites

Nearly daily, post workout. Varying the ingredients every time (i.e. coconut oil instead of peanut butter, other kind of seeds, other kind of berries and so on)

Tastes absolutely fantastic!
You should give it a try, but make sure your eggs are safe to consume raw!
(or just replace them with protein powder, probably the easier way)

I've been making the same shakes every day at 12:30pm since 2008. Earlier if I know I'll be busy in the afternoon.

1/2 cup yogurt
1/2 cup frozen wild blueberries
1 small, ripe banana (too green makes the shake frothy)
1 scoop Optimum Nutrition Natural Whey Protein
1 tbsp natural peanut butter (smooth)
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp flax meal
A handful of spinach, or 1 scoop of greens powder
+ enough milk to help it stir well and reach a drinkable consistency.

Everyday.

Two scoop vanilla protein powder (Trutein has the best tasting protein on the market)
1-1.5 cups mixed blueberries, strawberries, raspberries.
3 tbsp Peanut Butter
1.5 cups of whatever milk is in the fridge.

Legit tastes like peanut butter and jelly in the form of a shake.

Flax seed

Frozen Blueberries
Frozen cherries
Banana
Baby kale
Beet
Sometimes a scoop of plain hemp protein.

Most people just don't care about their health. You gotta get them to care.

Amazing amount of smoothie drinkers here. We made the one as I posted above this morning but added some cucumber. You can bury just about any vegetable in there once you find a good core recipe.

Awesome so far, I am also surprised by the amount of regular smoothie drinkers (not just, hey yeah I drank one last week, just threw some stuff in the blender). Some of the unusual ingredients that you all mentioned that I may well pick up on my next visit to the grocery store include coconut oil, chia seeds, ginger, spirulina, agave nectar, flax seeds, etc.

I am trying to figure out how the public lacks this info, how to provide a solution if I can uncover a need, and without opening a storefront or selling a physical smoothie because of FDA regulations and the terrible business that restaurants/food service is (just my opinion). On the other end of the spectrum, the world doesn't need more recipe books or how to's, so cautious to go that route. There may be more of a need on the B2B side of things or acting as an independent smoothie authority that people can trust, building a following/list that way. And after developing regular traffic, charging franchisees of other companies as well as corporate to place advertisements + discounts on the site which is trusted amongst smoothie consumers.

If there's enough interest and its feasible, there should definitely be a smoothie station next to the BulletProof Coffee at next year's summit. Ha.

I often mix and match variety of ingredients, here's some of the stuff I use:

-Bananas, great for adding sweetness
-Frozen berries, usually blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries
-Spinach,
-Pears
-Greek yogurt
-Kiwis
-Raw Manuka honey
-Golgi berries
-Peanut butter (real, organic peanut butter)
-Coconut water (for those who didn't know, coconut water is the closest known substance to blood plasma. The health benefits are endless)
-Kale
-Flax seeds
-Cocoa powder
-Turmeric (being Indian, I always have this in my house)
And basically any other fruits or vegetables I feel like adding

I have a smoothie pretty much everyday. I'm even at the point where on days that I don't have it, my body does't feel right lol

extremely healthy, low on sugar
This isn't entirely true. Smoothies, even without any added sugar, will probably still have an insane amount of calories, depending on what you put in it. I know when I make smoothies, I likely consume an extra 1000 calories, but seeing as I have an extremely active lifestyle, it's not really an issue. Just make sure if you have a high calories smoothie, you end up using those calories you've added.

Great subject...physical health and strength are the foundation of life success in all areas...if there is one thing I would change about my younger self it would be nutrition discipline...I'm always looking for ways to improve my nutrition/fuel routine and creatively swipe good ideas...smoothies/shakes are a big part of my plan...for the past 2 years I have replaced two meals a day Monday through Friday with a very simple shake...I use Garden of Life Raw Meal with unsweetened almond milk twice per day...it's organic smart nutrition with 40 grams of protein per serving along with 20 plus vitamins and superfoods...it is easy to prepare and consume at home and on the go...I also have one balanced, healthy meal along with almonds, walnuts, blueberries, etc for snacks as needed...I drink at least 4 liters of water per day along with a bit of tea and a glass of red wine...I have cut out soda except for the occasional root beer (I love the stuff)...on weekends I loosen up the routine a bit but don't go overboard...smoothies/shakes are great tools for people who value their time and performance.

Madness.

I do 1 scoop of Amazing Grass Green Superfood + 8 oz. V8 Healthy Greens with hand blender.

Less of a smoothie than it is a glass of wet grass clippings, but better than a multivitamin I guess.

I care but I'm busy - my fancy breville is still in the box.

Not a bad bunch of recipes, good shares guys.

Super Green Smoothie

1/2 cucumber
a TON of spinach/kale
1 whole apple for taste

(trust me, try it if you want to be refreshed and filled with nutrients)

Meal Replacement Smoothie

1-2 tbsp of peanut butter
1 tsp of chia seeds
1 frozen banana
1 scoop of chocolate protein (vegan is highly recommended)

or

1 tsp of chia seeds
1 frozen banana
1 cup of mixed berries
1 scoop of vanilla protein (vegan is highly recommended)

Note: I pretty much don't use protein powder anymore, but I love these shakes. Very simple and easy to make.

Let's keep these coming, want to try a few new ones this week!

oh, yeah:

cranberry or apple juice
banana
yogurt
chia seeds
peanut butter
protein powder
random berries

~ 1 L. after every training session, so 2 - 3 days a week. Massive calories.

I used to be unhealthily thin, and if I'd known about smoothies earlier, I think it would have helped a LOT.

watch Eben Pagan's morning drink, this is well researched:

Eben is kind of a " success machine " so to speak, when looking at his lifestyle and diet.

his determination to follow through until success is unbelievable

As you can see below, the man has more than 1000 books in his library maybe 2000

I know! It's crazy. Occasionally, I fantasize about starting up a line of green smoothie (and juice!) trucks with patches of wheatgrass growing on the roof...

Anyway, great thread! So many yummy recipes to try.

My favorite one these days:

1 cup of spinach/beet greens/radish greens/microgreens
handful or two of basil (more basil, more better)
1 cup mangoes
1/2 banana
1/2 cup coconut milk
1/2 cup soy milk
2 tbsp wheat germ

Soooo good.

I'm really stunned by the amount of people here, for which a smoothie isn't a mixture of strawberry and banana with extra sugar.

I use a recipe from Dr Rhonda Patrick (check her out on youtube for the most in detail approach on preventing disease and aging, I've found so far)

8 large kale leaves (I use an entire bunch of curly kale).
4-6 rainbow chard leaves with stems
3 cups (~710 ml) of baby spinach (a large handful)
2 medium to large carrots
1 tomato
1 large avocado
1 banana
1 apple
1 cup (~710ml) of blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1 tall shot glass of flaxseed (optional) (can be a pain to clean the blender)
3 cups (~710 ml) of unsweetened flax/almond milk (almond makes this a little more expensive)

I usually drink this over the course of two days, since it's pretty high volume (around 2 litres)

She even included a micronutrient-breakdown (stars indicate it exceeds RDA)

calcium mg 2,116 mg*

This is what I usually have for breakfast. It tastes like ice cream and I love it:

Organic home made raw goat's milk kefir
Scoop of grass fed stevia sweetened whey protein powder
crushed flax seeds
chia seeds
hemp seeds
crushed raw cocoa nibs
matcha powder
ashwagandha powder
blueberries, godjies or any nuts I have around.

It's loaded with probiotics, omega 3s, protein and brain boosting ingredients in the raw cocoa, matcha and berries.
This keeps me full and focused for hours.

I usually have a glass of green vibrance some time during the day as well.

I am trying to figure out how the public lacks this info, how to provide a solution if I can uncover a need,

These are the obstacles that got in my way before I started drinking smoothies:

I think making a smoothie sounds like too much work. That's the big problem. Everyone would love drinking smoothies, because they're delicious. But it's so much easier to make a bowl of sugary cereal with milk.

Also, taking the 5-10 min to google what to put in a smoothie. Like, "There are so many options, and I don't know what is best or why, so I just won't do anything". Just like the wantreprenuers and action fakers here on the forum when it comes to business.

However, the secret is, after a week of making smoothies, you can make a delicious one, and do it without thinking in almost the same time it takes to make cereal. And you feel like a badass mad scientist while doing it.
