Riding on the coat tails of those who are successful

    PEOPLE
You didn't do nothing. You gave them financing when they needed it the most. Heck, you BELIEVED in them when others didn't. Never discount that. If you feel guilty about doing nothing, then do something. NOT with these companies. They seem to be prospering without you and you shouldn't mess up...

One Thing All Sidewalkers/Slowlaners Have In Common...

    MINDSET SLOWLANE
I'm with Lights. I don't have the time or inclination to worry about what other people think or do (other than my prospects, of course). Heck, I don't even have time to do everything I want to do. (so many products to launch, so little time) The best way to change minds is to lead by example...

My Problem promoting a book: any help? (FASTLANE POTENTIAL)

    PUBLISHING
Also, if your mom is going it alone, that's tough anywhere but especially in the writing world. Writing, contrary to the myth, is a group sport. I can't imagine working without my writing chapter, my writing group, and my editors. That would be like wandering around blind. I highly recommend...

My Problem promoting a book: any help? (FASTLANE POTENTIAL)

    PUBLISHING
Price isn't usually a big hurdle for romance readers. I don't know about straight fantasy. The biggest issue is the blurb. Who is the hero? Who is the heroine? Why do I care about these characters? What is the GMC (goals, motivation, conflict)? There's too much information and not enough...

My Problem promoting a book: any help? (FASTLANE POTENTIAL)

    PUBLISHING
BTW... You do know the starving writer personae is just marketing, right? Many of us make quite a good living at fiction writing. But the readers don't like to hear that. And there are plenty of fastlane writers. Heck, James Patterson doesn't even write his own books. Plus you can work in your...

My Problem promoting a book: any help? (FASTLANE POTENTIAL)

    PUBLISHING
I write both sci fi romance and paranormal romance. Giving away a book no one wants doesn't work. I tried that with one of my first pen names. Disaster. The pirates had a field day (most pirated books are from contest wins/giveaways) and it told readers I felt the books weren't worth paying...

How to choose the right plan

What I usually do with projects is set realistic benchmarks. I write romance novels. For a first story in a series, I have a sales target. If I miss that sales target by a wide margin, I won't write the next story. I 'quit' the series.

Is going to college a waste of time?

    HOT!
Okay, I'll try to post again, dang it. I apologize if this posts twice. What is your plan? 'Cause without a plan, you're simply wandering in the wilderness, hoping not to be eaten by bears. How does attending college or earning a college degree (two VERY different things) fit with your plan...

Random House is now listing all their print books on scrbd for FREE. http://dearauthor.com/wordpress/2009/03/30/piracy-and-legitimacy/ I'm not quite sure what they are doing but I do know that this will make it tougher for other folks to charge for eBooks and that this will speed up the...

Yes, I will 'haunt' this site. (grinning) Too bad as we have quite a few writers on this loop now. We could do some marketing brainstorming. Perhaps folks will like to do that without me but share the notes?

    HOT!
You guys are cruel. I find out Monday that Book #4 is set to release February 2010. I'm all happy, happy, happy because it is the absolute best month to have a romance out in (with Valentine's Day) And then you post this! (Sigh) I will not be attending because I'll be, once again, going...

    The "Luck Struck" Progress Thread

Because most people buying non-fiction books don't actually read them. Sad but true. (This doesn't hold for romance novel buyers.)
