I've been on this forum for about a year and a half so I guess it's time for an introduction. I have tried so many of the money chasing tactics in MJ's books from MLM to hot topic trending items to opening restaurants (although that is more of money burning than money chasing). I lost my father last year and watching his battle with cancer really gave me perspective on life. For the years while he was sick I worked in higher ed to have more free time to spend with him and mom. I don't regret that one bit. I am here because I know that I won't have much more time with my mother. I know my wife is in a similar situation. She is from another country and the money we make here has really been able to make a difference in the lives of her family. Still helping monetarily and having quality time is so much different. Both of our parents were small business people growing up really married to the job of the business. While they never made it Fastlane each had a business that produced disciples due to extraordinary customer service. I left my job in higher ed recently to take a sales job in hopes of further developing my skills while working on finding the areas where I can provide value. We do have some rental property and a consulting business now, but I am a bit in the marshes.

Thanks to @eliquid , @Andy Black, @Vigilante, @Fox , @MJ DeMarco, and countless others that have taken valuable time out of your lives to make this forum such a valuable resource.

Ah. Sorry to hear that about your dad. I went through the same thing last year with my dad. Yes, it puts things in perspective.

What do you mean by you’re “in the marshes”? How will you get out of the marshes?

Welcome Aaron.

Thanks. My wife is from Colombia that's what initially got me reading your posts I believe. Your time there was much more productive than mine at least in business pursuits.

Thanks @Aaron_S

That is for sure my current problem. I need to have a plan. I am in a constant state of indecision over action.

Sorry to hear about your dad also.

I guess I mean rudderless. I don't have any good direction or plan. While owning a rental and consulting are both positives a single rental is not a system and consulting is still time trade/not scalable. Maybe I am just having trouble picking something and executing in an area where I feel I can provide real value. I feel a bit stuck, and that is why I am trying to at least build sales skills for the moment.

Thanks for that. Totally relatable. I am so much cart before the horse. I am the engineer that never launches and not the 16-year-old with the lawnmower. I am so worried about traveling in the wrong direction that it debilitates me.

One thing working in sales has changed too is my perception of the process of sales. More than anything it is about solving someone's need at least in it's purest form which you briefly addressed in that phone call (putting a roof over your client's head due to increased work).

What made you decide that marketing/advertising was the place you could provide the most value?

Thanks for the welcome and for the condolences. It's a tragic risk of the slow lane, some won't make it to that some day. Even with that powerful but of imagery it is such an
engrained thing to fight against. I really appreciate your openness and honesty in the books and all the resources here. I also appreciate your narration of TMF on Audible it really adds genuiness to the "coffee with a millionaire" tone.

Well so you did. That was a good listen with a great intro story. Very sharp of you to become what people are searching for rather than going about it the traditional way. I probably used AdWords for the first time around the same time as you. I never took the time to learn to write copy so my ads were half-hearted. Still on your first ask, I'm going to find someone to help this weekend that is not family or job-related.

I followed through on my word and helped a random neighbor fix his toilets. It felt good as it always does to help. The oddest thing happened afterwards that I really gained a burst of intuition. I could see a lot more average pain points and opportunities. Honestly, I didn't even connect the two until the moment of typing this. I was still in the wrong mindset and that is what was stalling me. Thank you Andy. I will do more in the coming days to find a route to my execution thread.
