I have a very successful brother, brother in-law and extended family. They are scripted but very, very wealthy. I’m proud of them all but I have to admit that when I have family events to go to, as I do this weekend, I feel... Meh... a bit of a failure. Usually I’m ambitious, enthusiastic and determined but sometimes it’s really frustrating I haven’t got there yet. It can really take the wind out of my sails and make me feel tired.

Does anyone else ever feel this when around “successful” scripted friends / family?

I’ll be back on form tomorrow I’m sure :) but right now... meh...

When I'm around my wealthy family, I am impressed by how much it costs to flaunt their wealth. Not favorably.

We could have nicer stuff too, but then we would have less money.

BOOM REP++++

I know scripted family that go out of their way to look rich when they aren’t.

You know what’s priceless?

Wednesday at 2:30pm last week. Kids were off school for Easter holidays. Most people were at their 9-5.

I took my three sons to the hurling wall and they knocked balls against it (and at me) for an hour.

No job could pay me enough to miss moments like that.

EDIT: Here’s a short video from that day in case you’re wondering wtf a hurling wall is. (I’m laughing at the end because I’m amazed our 5yo smashes it straight back at me all the time.)

I was lucky/unlucky enough to go to a state school (many decades ago) that forced the joys of Hurling upon the boys. Lacrosse with attitude and no prisoners taken, the only other sport that inflicted more pain was Shinty, the sports teacher obviously had eclectic tastes with a Celtic bent.

Yeah it's the guys who make it look easy that gnaws at you. Some guy who tells you "yeah so I decided to start a business 6 months ago", "cool, how's that going", "oh only doing 10k/month profit at the moment". And they're just doing something dead simple, and don't look at all stressed or tired. Makes you do a big double take, and think "....what?".

We can all appreciate a Carnegie or Zemurray rags to riches story; it's the guys who seemed to effortlessly float into money that's a little harder to stomach. Especially guys like Tai Lopez, who doesn't look like he's ever broken a sweat, and who's in the 7 figures.

All you can do is just vigorously analyse why their lesser efforts are producing more money, and try to realign your work accordingly.

Well OP, I can totally relate to you.
Pretty much all my relatives are living the scripted life, a few of the more successful ones are making low-5 digit figures monthly. Mind you, they've very long working hours everyday but still....

I sometimes wonder WTF am I doing.
I don't want to be like them though. I want to be like Biophase or MJ.

Comparison hurts. Everyday you can find someone who is doing more than you are. Most of the time, it is a facade. Sometimes it is not a facade and that's when it hurts.

You cannot compare your present middle to someone's current best.

Example: a guy who weighs 500lbs walking a mile everyday and busting his butt to just get 1 foot further to lose 1lb can't be compared to an olympic gold medalist running their 30th professional marathon.

Both of them are working equally hard. They are just at different points, start versus middle.

The best comparison is to wake up; look in the mirror; ask that girl or guy in the mirror if you're 1 degree better than yesterday; give a hi-five; then tell yourself in the mirror that you love yourself deeply.

Comparisons to yourself from yesterday, last week, last month, last year are the only fruitful comparisons.

So basically, just let it go and never give up.

Edit:

"Private victories precede public victories. If you want the secondary greatness of public recognition, first focus on the primary greatness of character." -Stephen R Covey

Just put up personal wins first. Those matter the most and will be what you remember at the end of the day.

A bit off-topic of the thread, but this is a really important point... In my opinion, the thing that allows some people to make a lot of money easily is "timing"...

Tai Lopez found a niche (making money through IM by teaching others how to make money through IM) and got in very early in that niche. All of his "students" are trying to replicate that model, but because they are late to the game, they are stuck fighting over the scraps.

If you want to make a lot of money with little work, find an emerging opportunity and get in early. The risk is that you get in too early, or that it's not really an emerging opportunity, but in my opinion, that's a better risk than getting in too late and having the opportunity dry up.

Everything I've done that has generated (relatively) easy $$$ has been the result of good timing (technology, poker, real estate, book writing, etc). In some cases, I was smart and give myself credit for the timing. In other cases, I was simply lucky when it came to the good timing. But, in all cases, timing was key.

I don't want to speak for MJ, but I have a feeling he would agree. He started an Internet service business back before everyone was creating Internet service business, and cashed out when it became popular. He started an online business forum back before everyone and their brother had a forum, and I imagine is doing great now that it's become popular. He wrote a great book back before Amazon made it easy for everyone to publish their own works, and leveraged his early entry to build a brand/name for himself.

Anyway, I could write a whole book on this topic (and have considered it), but that's my $.02 on how to make a lot of money easily...

Truth!

Please do! In fact, a lot of people in this forum need to write books: AndyBlack, Fox, AllanCrawley, Vigilante, Biophase..... I don't mind paying US$19.99 for an ebook (I already have Walter's book in my collection and looking for more from this forum).

Indeed. I never cease to be surprised by the number of modern big wealthy names, who when I trace back their history to work out where they got their "ignition", comes back to the 2000 tech bubble. Even people you wouldn't expect, like Tony Robbins (his oft-mentioned making $400M in a day was from an IPO near the end of the bubble). Others got a funding round in before the bubble burst (Musk/PayPal). They all had good products, but absolutely was timing the key factor in them becoming household name rich.

One thing I've been paying attention to is moves in cutting edge companies, especially those getting funding from multiple smart names. Looking for patterns in where they're choosing to advance, and then analyzing what spaces this is going to open up behind them (and if I can exploit those spaces). I figure they've got much larger research budgets and a closer finger on "the pulse" that I could ever have, so targeting based on sources like this I surmise reduces the risk of ending up in the shaft of the hockey stick rather than the blade (for the same amount of work).

Would you feel different if they were unscripted and very very wealthy?

They obviously have a skill that they are paid well for. So what does them being scripted or unscripted have to do with why they are wealthy to you?

Nobody feels bad for Lebron that he has to go to work every other day for 8 months.

Yeah man, welcome to the black sheep club. I can completely relate; two older brothers, both successful. The oldest one loves to chime every time I see him that 'he's got more loose change in his couch than I make in a year.' He's done that for 20 years. But money is just money, frankly the dude always had blinders on in many other aspects of life. Look closely and I don't doubt you'll see something similar.

There's no free lunch, the Unscripted path is really just a smart way to address a cold reality of the marketplace and how it works. If you're like most of us, you didn't find that rosy wage path like (perhaps) they did. Don't envy them, those slots are increasingly rare these days...especially with the coming waves of technological upheaval. If you do find success with an Unscripted path, you can make up for (and surpass) their gains overnight. Then get actual freedom to boot.

I understand how you feel.

Simply put:

Dont compare your insides (how you feel) with someones outsides (what you see).

Its a hard lesson to apply. But your family could be pulling their hair out or are super stressed with how much $$ they spend on flaunting their wealth.

yea i do feel like that sometimes, but i try to get over that hump. for you, its family at the end of the day. let your guards down relax, take a look around and be happy.
Good advice - sometimes you get so caught up in the process you forget how to take a step back and chill! Thanks :)

I know exactly how you feel. I’ve been there
Trust me when I say this.....
It’s in you

The same thing that made your bloodline successful is inside of you. You just have to tap into it. That happens when you start taking life seriously. Reading, working out, thinking.

Eventually the gears will turn

I didn’t happen for me until I was 27

Make yourself better and you won’t be considered a failure
You might outshine the rest of them....

Keep in mind that if you wrote this post from a computer you own, over Wifi, in your house that has running water and a refrigerator with some food in it, then about 99% of the world would be thrilled to trade places with you.

You're doing just fine.
:praise: to that. I didn't even realise impatience and frustration had turned my mind to thinking ungratefully. After reading this I went out for a run, listened to some feel good tunes and reminded myself of all thats good in my life. It felt good! Thanks!

I would feel differently in the fact that I would feel more motivated and inspired by them if they were unscripted . I get so excited talking to people that have left the script. I've had the good scripted job. Had the great job title & salary to boot and one of the perks is feeling proud at family events haha petty eh! Other than that I hated being an employee.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not feeling sorry for myself. I'm truly excited about my journey and I am proud of myself. I'm feeling determined but there's a looong way to go and from here. On an off day, it can feel like my scripted family have a hell of a lot more freedom than me... Eyes on the prize though... Thanks for your reply

Wow this is inspiring thank you! Although I do feel a bit old and past it now at 35:rofl:

It's always been there inside of me but MJs books woke me up, slapped me around the face and made me realise it can be done. Really he is a legend.

For sure, sometimes it blows my mind how much they must spend each month on "stuff"

I'm not even very bothered about "stuff", I'm a pretty simple girl really. I fiercely want to make my parents and children secure and free though. Freedoms what its all about

Massive thank you to everyone that replied to this. I was having a little pity party on my own (the shame). It's over now, back to focusing on the goal. Power through...

On a side note, I've only been on this forum for a short time but you guys have truly inspired and refocused me. Facebook browsing is dead to me since I've discovered you all. You lovely strangers are far more motivating and inspirational than most of the people I actually know. And for that, thank you :praise:

Wishing you all success in your endeavours! And hope I can offer some help to others along the way too. I don't have a lot of Rep (is that right??) yet but I'll be generous with what I have starting now...

It's a familiar feeling, but you must at all price focus on your path.
BUT, you can actually see where they've been successful and how they've done it, because you can learn something there, you can also look at the industry in which they are if it's inspiring for you.

But you must have a laser focus on your path, the business.

I'm like this too, i have friends who own multiples businesses which produces between 200K of profits per year and 350k+ profit per year.
I'm sometime a little bit down because of this, i tell myself that i won't be able to do the same.
But when you actually look at these guys, they are like you, they just took actions, massive actions on their businesses.
They've been doing Macro speed / Micro patience like Gary Vaynerchuck love to say, but it's true.

Here's another thing when meeting other people. You may know that they have money but know nothing about their lives.

For example, I could be sitting on the beach next to a guy making $10M a year. But this one week could be his only week where he gets to relax and be on vacation. But for me, I have been here for 3 weeks already. Who is envious of who here?

When you look at your family again, think in that context. They may be working very hard and are enjoying their weekend, their 2 days of pleasure per 7. Whereas today is just a normal day for you. In fact, you didn't even know it was a Saturday.

It's not always about how much money you have.
