    Default Do You Do This?

Do you write down your goals? Not only that but is your goal broken down into 100 mini goals?

I notice a lot of people do not write down their goals, they simply just tell themselves in their head what their goals are.

Not only that but their goals are very generalized(I.E. Get rich! , start XYZ start up and then sell to Google!, Lose 50 pounds! Make my first million!)

Here is a study that says overall you are more likely to succeed if you commit your dreams to writing: Study Backs up Strategies for Achieving Goals

Isn't this Event oriented VS process oriented?

If you break down a very general goal into 100 goals you are paving the way to your process. But if you simply say in your head: "I wanna be rich" you are event oriented!

Putting your goals on paper makes them as real as they can get at the moment. Having a piece of paper with a hundred goals that translate into "I wanna be rich" exposes the exact process and steps you need to take to accomplish your goal.

But here is the biggest benefit of doing this: You will find that this is very difficult! Very puzzling to break down a general goal into 100 goals! Especially the goal "I wanna get rich". It helps you identify and get familiar with your process.

Saying I wanna start a company and then sell it to google sounds simple and easy because its event oriented. But if you actually break it down to its process all of a sudden you know what you are up against and reality sets in.

So hopefully my suggestion helped you. Just try it out.

Most of you that read this will not do this. But those of you that do you will discover something awesome . You will discover the true meaning between event vs process.

So how do you set goals? What strategies do you use to accomplish them?

I actually just started writing down my goals.

I have my fitness goals written down. They are very specific with time frames. I like knowing that each day, I get closer to them.

    It helps a lot.

I need to start writing my school and financial goals down, making them specific and day-to-day.

    In all honesty, I can't function if I don't!

Our business plan consists of a 5 year plan divided by three assets (Media, sales & technical/design) divided in months.

When a goal or idea pops into my head i'll email it to my evernote account. If it still makes sense in my head when I review it i'll break it down into tasks on how to achieve that goal. I've got so much ADD that if it wasn't written down somewhere it would never get done.

I didn’t try it till now but I agree that you get more stick to your goal by writing it down, but for that your goal must be realistic and viable.

Yep. Been doing it for years!

I have 3 main goals for this year. I have it on a BIG piece of paper in big letters in my office so I can look at my goals on a daily basis.

When I start on a project, I normally split things up into smaller actions and work on projects until they are completed to my satisfaction. Then I move on the next "main" goal and do it again.

Is it a perfect system? No.... but it's better than nothing and it works for me.
