Quit my job? I won't get benefits if I do that. Not happening.
Keep my job? Keep becoming progressively more stupid, watch my mental health degrade. Not happening.
Go part time? Ok fair enough I'll look into this as well
    I would recommend:

Keep your job, and apply for other jobs in the evenings. This can be full time job applications or part time job applications. If you get a full-time job, hand in your resignation letter and leave the role. If you get a part time job, hand in your resignation letter shake the bosses hand and leave. Start your ventures after work hours or on weekends.

I once had a job in an industry as a lowly employee in New Zealands capital. They are the flashest business is their area with money to burn - the best of the best. I burnt bridges on the way out, and guess what, one of my current businesses SELLS to this industry, and this industry only. Unfortunately, they won't be my client... and rightly so I don't blame them.

    Never burning a bridge again...

It was difficult trying to bum around at work today, because it's so habitual. It ended up quite a productive day. Also have been thinking a lot about how I don't want to screw my workmates over.

I'll have a look at part time work. Probably isn't too good for you to be shacked up in the house 7 days a week anyway.

I'm curious could you be a little more selfish?

I'll tell you from experience, you better lose the "wah someone else is at fault, wah someone else is making my life tough, wah it is all about me and my desires" pretty fast if you want to lose the minimum wage life.

I wish I had read this post when I was 16 years old. I've left a trail of scorched earth relationships from former employers, because of that same attitude, KTDA. If you don't like your job, you have a couple of options.

    1. Do such a good job and make yourself so valuable that they have no choice but to promote you or lose you.
    2. Work there, do your job, and work your ass off on your Fastlane (that means figuring out what that is and EXECUTING) in your off time so you can tell them to screw off when you want to.

I hope you make the ethical choice.

I'd rather not have to receive benefits for a while, but it's a necessary evil to get where I want to get. Fair point, people will frown upon this but I just think you've got to play the hand you're dealt.

I'll make sure I'm fired in a way that doesn't screw my workmates over. Not bothered about reputation, I'm really popular at work so the only people who I'll get a bad rep with will be my bosses and screw them. I have backup plans like being able to work for relatives, people willing to lie on my resume.

If there's one thing I have, it's drive. You don't now me of course, but the successes I've had in the past couple of years have been pretty damn impressive. Give me a year of doing nothing but web design and business building and I will deliver.
It's a necessary evil at this point because your value to society is low which is why you are working where you are working. You obviously think that you were dealt a shitty hand. Tell me what that means exactly? You parents were poor? You brain is not as good? You live in a shitty area?

Think about what you said, I won't screw my friends... who are ALL employees. I will screw over the bosses who most likely are older and have friends at other companies. Seriously, if all 20-25 year olds love you and all 30-50 year olds hate you, which do you think will help you in the future?

Con men and Drug dealers have drive. Having a drive itself is not a desirable trait. I'm sure your successes in the past couple of years were great because you have $2000 saved up from all that success!

Burning your bridges with your current bosses is a very bad idea. You never know WHO may help you in the future with what you do or create. Maybe when you quit and start your fastlane project, they may have connections you don't know of right now. Be the better man and leave on good terms. NO ONE gets to choose where or how they were born or where they live in the beginning of life.
Now that you work for a living..only you can make the choice of what happens from here on. NOW is your time to make your own decisions and do things right from the beginning.

If you can't even fix your attitude at work how are you supposed to manage your own business?

I expected this type of response.

Funny, it's exactly what our employer tells us when we complain about the unreasonable workload. "Dry your eyes" is a favourite expression of theirs.

I think the exact opposite of what you say is true. I like the fact I get pissed off, it causes me to take action.

So it seems we're not entertaining the idea that it's a highly stressful job that's draining me mentally. I'm clearly a "lazy-ass" "dick" who it would be great to see fail. I should shut up, work harder and work on my fastlane ideas when I get home. Ok.

I am in this situation because of some poor choices I've made in life. I was an alcoholic and drug user for a few years and therefore failed to utilise my degree. I now find it harder to cope at work than most because I get flustered, depressed, confused sometimes.

So playing the hand I was dealt is probably not the best phrase, I'm really meaning 'this is my current reality'.

Sounds like an AA meeting now haha. It was three years ago when I started to clean up. I quit smoking, drinking, drugs. I started weightlifting and have lifted some impressive weights. I got my driver's license. I got a job, and got promoted after 4 months. I have $2000 saved in my account whereas my colleagues have no money after the first weekend of the month because they waste it on drink and other crap. I think I've done pretty damn well but now I feel stuck. There's no way I want another promotion within the company. The next stage up is team manager where you end up still on minimum wage because of all the unpaid overtime you need to do. I've applied for other jobs but haven't gotten anywhere with it. So whereas in the last couple of years I've went from success to success, I now feel like I'm slipping back. I worry about my health and my limited amount of time on this planet, and if I need to spend a year on benefits to get out of this situation and improve my life then I'm prepared to do so. I'm sorry if it pisses you off that this is a selfish move but sometimes in life you have to be selfish, break the rules.

I live in a right to work state. That means that I have the right to quit just as fast as my employer has a right to fire me for littleto know reason.

I would have no worries over getting fired. My fiance was fired from her job for some real lame reasons. Then a week later over 200 employees were laid off and got unemployment benefits. She was sacked to save the company unemployment expenses and they thought she wasn't smart enough to appeal.

Well we did appeal. Shes from a foreign country and did not understand what was going on but I did and I coached her through it it. And we won the appeal.

Now we get 99 weeks of income while she builds her business full time. And I do not feel one bit guilty about it nor do I fear any karma. As My current employer is doing the same thing right now. I cant wait til she frees me. And in the meantime In addition to helping her business I am selling one and building another in forex, So don't give me any crap about being Greedy and lazy.

I just wish I could print out 600 billion dollars and lend it out to my criminal friends on wall street at zero percent interest and let the tax payers soak up the loss with inflation.. Now THAT's a fastlane plan! LOL

you guys are way too hard on this guy, sometimes when you are in poverty the way out is not always peaches and cream.

His employer may deserve this or not, but that is not the point.

He may employ hundreds of people one day, pay millions in tax, and strengthen our economy.

Wall street was making money for years... hand over fist and they get bailed when their game caught up with them. What happened to all the money they made in the good years? No risk and huge reward business model operates on the backs of average working Americans who now cannot even put food on table an roof over our heads.

Whatever. Anyone older than 16 shouldnt act like this. He is a worthless fool and that is why he is destined to remain at his current social status. I wouldnt pay him minimum wage. He doesnt even deserve a job the way hes acting.

This is why minimum wage is BS, this guy is worth $3.25/hr tops. Congrats eagle you are gainfully overemployed. Maybe if you and KTDA went into business together you could make $10/hr...

    I don't think so - I'm not seeing a connection internally.

"Here is a man who is wretchedly poor. He is extremely anxious that his surroundings and home comforts should be improved. Yet all the time he shirks his work, and considers he is justified in trying to deceive his employer on the ground of the insufficiency of his wages. Such a man does not understand the simplest rudiments of those principles which are the basis of true prosperity. He is not only totally unfitted to rise out of his wretchedness, but is actually attracting to himself a still deeper wretchedness by dwelling in, and acting out, indolent, deceptive, and unmanly thoughts." James Allen -As a Man Thinketh.

That sums up your problem right there - it's a common trap, one I found myself in for many years. Ask yourself a simple question - If I cannot or will not demonstrate that I can execute my current duties at an even satisfactory level - then what exactly qualifies me for a higher position?

I see what you're saying. Again, just like other people on this thread, your post assumes a reasonable workload is being placed upon me.

E.g. I can only physically do 100 pieces of work per day, and my employer asks me to do 120. I try to do their 120 but the quality suffers, I have to cut corners. They hound me and my workmates constantly about the quality of our work, so we pay more attention to the quality. A backlog of work is then accumulated as we're back to doing our 100 pieces at top quality.

Meh, I think we all know where we stand on this now.
