Thread: My Idea - Process

I have an idea which for the past month has been dabbling in my mind , Everyday if am in the city i see someone who has a need for this product i have in mind the problem also talking to friends abroad it seems there is a need there too the problem is i've searched through the yellow pages and researched here for my country (Jamaica) and haven't been able to find a manufacturer for the product,its an electronic product. I Have it drawn on paper so i know exactly what i want it to look like, just unable to make the first step.......If anyone has any knowledge on how to get patent and licensing or a manufacturer for this idea your advice and knowledge is needed.

That's a bit vague of a post. Do you have any experience in manufacturing? Judging by your age, I'm guessing it'd be fairly minimal. You can file for a provisional patent; however, you should consider speaking to a patent lawyer about specifics. Following this, I'd take a look at licensing to a larger player in the field. The first thing you should do is some reading. Learn a little bit about the difference between manufacturing and licensing. Learn about the patent process. Do extensive research on your idea. See if there's a market for your idea. Spend the next month or so working your ass off to learn about the whole process of product development to see if it's right for you.

Everyone in this forum is here to help each other out but we're not going to spoon feed you. You shouldn't come on here asking us what to do with your "idea" and expect to get answers without having done one bit of research yourself.

Ideas are a dime a dozen. We all have them. It's about executing your idea and if you don't want to due the necessary homework now, then your "idea" will always be just an idea.

Show some effort and we will be glad to help.

I Have Been Reading and Doing the research on this,There is a Market for it (Like i said in the first post everyday if am in town i see someone with a need for the product), also my peers overseas say the market is there too.I'll go ahead and learn the product development process, I Was just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as i knew nothing about patents etc

Finished reading One Simple Idea, Learnt alot of things from it but there is still a barrier where my country is concerned even though the market is wide here its also wide in the US. There aren't any Big Firms here dealing with my type of product to license it here in Jamaica. In the process of having it drawn on paper (PROTOTYPE) have all the features etc written down research shows it is able to make because products "close" to it is on the market but they are rare and from my judgement haven't been marketed well because almost everyone i talked to about it never heard of one but when i search online i see a few, But still isn't with my concept maybe just a part of it

Quick Question to all Fastlaners, Has anyone here ever developed a Product and actually brought it to the Market? Or Got it licensed to a company?? If So I'd like to hear all the stories on how you did this.
