Default My business idea. What do you think?

Hi, I am a graphic design student and I have been thinking of creating a design brand. Specifically, I have been thinking into creating wallpaper designs. Once my brand breaks into the market and does well, I hope to expand to other interior decor items.

Here are some few questions I have.
    1. Is this a fastlane business idea? I guess I'm really curious about how much passivity this kind of business can offer. Ideally, in the future, I will be concentrating on producing the designs only. I figure maybe new product offerings (collections) every 6 months because most small design boutiques do it that way.
    2. I am thinking to get the funds necessary for initial marketing and production by working first. Is this the best way? I don't want to ask more money from my parents and my assumption is banks will not loan money to a recent graduate. Is that true? I have no idea how much money I need at this stage although I think it will not be that much.
    3. In my research, I was unable to get an estimate into how big the wallpaper market and sales are at all. How do I best approach the owner of a furniture gallery to let me in on the numbers and size of market?

Thanks for helping out. I really appreciate it.

Oh I'm new to this forum, too so hope I can get to know all of you better.!

Hmm, I will share my suggestions but know that I'm no millionaire yet so just take what is good, assimilate the relevant, and leave out the rest

    Here goes,

    1. Create a platform for other designers to join in your idea of creating unique and beautiful wallpaper designs. The obvious choice is to create a website that specializes in that, think Etsy but for custom wallpaper designs. This way you get others to help out, and you help others too. And in the long-term you would want it to free you to take on other endeavors in life, not 'shackle' you down as the main designer.

    2. IMHO, I believe that by working in that industry first to be the best way. You are doing so blindly, but with the purpose of observing how others run a business from the inside. This alone is priceless, while at the same time you get income coming in too. Think of it as learning the ropes while challenged by real-world assignments + getting paid

    3. You can also use your spare time to begin producing a few designs and begin marketing it to places (like the furniture galleries you mentioned) that sell wallpaper, just so to gauge their interest in your products. This will give you an idea how the industry you are trying to service really works. Plus, you get to build rapport by first offering value instead of looking to take.

Just my 2 cents. Hope there is something useful in these paragraphs. Cheerios!
