Hi guys,

I have written an ebook and I have a very crude landing page that I have been using, but have gotten 0 sales. I'm curious, what are the biggest factors to make your landing pages convert? Can you recommend any templates that I can take a look at? Would it be a waste to hire someone to make a page?

I am determined to makes sales, I just don't know the best way to do this.

There are several factors to a good landing page but the number one is to instill confidence and trust in your visitor.

To achieve this, there are many things a page can do. I suggest you first check out the two books "Call to Action" and "Ca$hvertising" if you haven't already. Tons of great tips in those.

It can be a good idea to hire someone to design the page for you - IF the person doing it is not just a 'designer' but also is well versed in conversion optimization. Your average web designer may know how to make a page look pretty - but surprisingly many of them don't know that much about *selling* and persuasion through their visual design. A good landing page designer should be just as good of a copywriter as he is a designer.

As far as templates, no one can give you that advice. Simply because what is best for your product will not work for another product (or niche, rather). Look at similar landing pages of ebooks that you know are successful and draw some inspiration (NOT copy them!) from what they are doing on-page.

Answer the need that brought them to the page sincerely and have a clear call to action above the fold.

Also - be sure the conversion you are asking for is something reasonable. Might be better to get them to optin so you can work them later, rather than try to sell them a $200,000 diamond ring right off the bat.

I'm far from an expert, but the above seem to me the most basic elements.

You can get good looking landing page designs at themeforest.net for 20 bucks.

If you're on a budget, you can hire somebody to craft a powerful sales message instead (way bigger ROI)...

Check out sitetuners.com. Tim Ash is one of the best when it comes to making a great landing page. They have some decent articles on the site that might help you out. I've never used their services, but have seen them do live site evals during conferences and they seem very sharp.

How much traffic have you been sending to the page? And what type of traffic?

^This. First thing's first - is the traffic you're getting not converting, or are you not getting traffic as it is? Expect a conversion rate around 1% if your landing page is really good.

If you're trying to avoid shelling out cash for a design, look at sites like Ramit Sethi, Apple, Tim Ferriss, Secret Entourage, & Tim Sykes for good landing page ideas. They all employ different layout strategies that work based on their products and services.

I like to use Apple's rule for product landing pages, which has a tagline and 2-5 selling points, and then jumps to a page with more information. That way you can AB test different taglines and selling points to see which bring more people to the product sales page with more info.

Also it would be great if you have posted the text/design of your landing page so we know what is wrong and what is right.

If you've only had say 100 visitors to your site that is not enough traffic to determine if the landing page is converting well or not. I'd say at least 1000 visitors but I believe a good rule of thumb is 10,000 (I believe I read that here on this forum, maybe by MJ?).

Also, would be good to know what type of traffic is it. Organic search, Google PPC, Facebook PPC, affiliates, etc.

Do you have any recommendations?

I have sent about 1500 visitors. The site has to do with Forex. I was told that it was a high competition / high profit niche. So far I've gotten nothing though hahaa.

You just identified some of your problems here...

The site has to do with Forex. I was told that it was a high competition / high profit niche.

It sounds like you either know very little about this niche, you have no passion for it, or both. You shouldn't be doing something like this if you're not expert-level. I wouldn't trust a surgeon with no degree or experience; why should I trust you? Your very low conversion rate speaks to this - many users can sniff out someone who is just trying to leech money from them without the ability to add value.

So far I've gotten nothing though hahaa.

I'm not even sure you've got any real goals here. You admit that:

1) You've written an ebook on a subject you don't seem to know much about, and expect that people will buy it

2) You have a "very crude landing page", which tells the user even you don't believe in the product enough to invest in its marketing, nor do you respect users enough to work for their money

3) You're looking for landing page templates instead of doing the first and most obvious thing - checking your competition. I googled "forex ebook", clicked on the top ads and came up with these landers:

Forex Trading for Beginners| Free ebook download | Questrade
New to Forex? We
WorldWideMarkets - Online Forex Currency Demo Trading Platform
Free Forex eBook - 10 Keys to Successful Trading - Forex Education | Forex Tips
Forex e-Book | easy-forex

...which range from 'great' to 'garbage'. Rule #1 about marketing online: check how your competition is spending their money on ads, and what they're using to convert.

It's great to hear that you're determined to make sales, but it seems you haven't put the requisite hours in to master your niche and to learn how to market yourself online. This makes you sound a bit like the electrician who is trying to remove his mother's appendix using a rusty spoon because he joined a forum and now believes he's a surgeon.

hahaha I like the analogy.

To be honest I dove into this as my first ever project and had no passion for it and I think it showed. I have moved on to other projects that I am proud of and I work a lot more on.

I just don't want this to go to waste? But maybe chaulk it up as a learning experience

Avus,

Look at the following sites for some quick and easy pointers:

UnBounce (unbounce.com)
LeadPages (leadpages.net)

You can run some quick A/B tests, and get a lander built/hosted by DIY, or you can hire someone on Fiverr to get it done. Again, you get what you pay for... Don't expect a $5 gig on Fiverr to convert like MadMen-style out of the gates.

Forex is a competitive market, for sure.

Winning Formula = Traffic (from the right place) + Compelling Offer (A/B Test, then B/C, then C/D test) + Perseverance

Share your page and the guys/gals on the forum will help.
