books on seo are outdated as soon as they are printed, if not sooner.

you can start with SEO: The Free Beginner?s Guide From SEOmoz

after that I would recommend reading through the BHW forum, its the best out there for everything related to internet marketing

Thanks, I really want some better natural traffic. I am already beating my PPC efforts with natural traffic since I launched my blog and started using more social media. So I am saving a lot of money.

I am addicted to free traffic now and I would be willing to sock a shit load of time into it and really do it right. I get that way.... Fortunately!

Exactly. SEO books are worthless because as soon as their printed, they're outdated. The game changes monthly; books take months, sometimes over a year to go through a production cycle. The best info will always be current information via a targeted search (posts within the last 3-6 months.)

Its really a good place to learn some more advanced techniques. But you also have to shift through A LOT of bullshit to find this stuff. Forget about all the "money making methods" that are shared there and try to look for the real knowledge. Find the most reputable posters in the areas that interest you (e.g. white hat seo) and look through their posts/threads.

    Have fun!

edit: my personal recommendation is to outsource SEO. try to keep on top of the developments by reading some blogs/forums, but try to find a great outsourcer to do the work. otherwise it will take too much time out of your main business activities..

Hello KAK, i have found these to be helpful. Search Engine Land Google SEO for Startups

Overall, the site is quite informative as well. Not exactly a book but it is at least more current than printed material.

The basics have stayed the same a lot longer, the tricks are what changes all the time, tricks and exploits. On page SEO and the general idea of ranking via backlinking your site has always stayed somewhat consistent though.

I am just addicted to natural traffic. I got 3 customers this week and didn't pay a dime for a single one of them. Gotta love it.

SO... I need to learn the basics first anyway so I am going to read SEO made easy on the kindle. It seems to have some pretty good ratings, then I will know what questions to ask on the forum. I have no idea what a backlink even is.

Got some great, less competitive keywords that I am going to focus on. One in particular is very low competition and would provide for quite a bit of search traffic. I am exited about this. I am familiar with on page SEO and Meta tags, but not really on the behind stuff.
