Default linkedin for your online business or NO?

I never really keep up with social mediums but lately ive been browsing around linkedin and i see if you have any sort of online business to do with business linkedin is just unbelievable.

Heres my question... you are just starting out with the business and your competitors have lets say 10k, 15k in members in their group. By you going there with 0 are you subjecting yourself to look bad?

There are so many pros but i can see the cons as well, once your on there, theres no going back and if you dont start getting more and more members, your competitor is actually going to look like they have a better product just because they have more members.

Also i see it says: other pages members viewed and it directly puts your competitors there.... Is it all worth it? Is FF even on it?

    Any stories/experiences would be great.

My value in LinkedIn is in keeping in touch with my network/rolodex. I don't hope to generate business from LinkedIn (although I have been contacted by recruiters and I have received consulting gigs from LinkedIn). I am very active on LinkedIn but spend zero time prospecting there. Build a good business, and your business reputation and profile will then flow naturally.

I use LI to connect personally but not to promote a business. If I had employees, maybe, but I am not sure how a business profile for your company without any info or connections will help.

I will say though LI advertising is awesome, and if you have a B2B type company, this would be a terrific way to advertise.

Yes or no. It's a case to case thing. It'll work for others but will be a complete disaster for the rest.
