Thread: Free advertising/current trends

So for the past week my Facebook has been flooded with little pictures of "What my friends think I do, What my teachers think I do, What I think I do, What I really do". I usually end up clicking on these to see what they are because most of them are pretty funny. One thing I noticed, unlike any other pictures that I see being shared of parties, friends , etc.: These things always have hundreds of shares.

Why not take advantage of this for free advertising through Facebook? I made up one of these for someone that is building a new kind of social network (took out the specific link at the end because I'm not sure what forum rules are or if he wants it shared here). I am 1,000 times more likely to click on these things to view than to click on Facebook ads.

This could basically be duplicated in any industry where you highlight the negative in 'what people think I do'. Type out "What you should be doing" and then put your advertisement in the solution.

I haven't done one for my personal site yet because it is not ready yet, but as soon as it is, I will test it out and share the outcome.

Thank's - We are having trouble reaching the 1000 pre-beta signups the goal is to get. Using something like this - what do you think would be the best places to post it?

Tumblr - Might have a slight reblog effect - will try it later today, my estimates are around 10 hits maximum

Pinterest - still learning but, since it's very similar to Tuimblr (the reblog/repin viral effect) i'll assume thesame.

Facebook - our facebook fans already go to our website pretty consistently, so it would be something more for keeping them entertained.

Twitter- Possible RT - and maybe new followers - Good idea for twitter - best use too in my opinion. 1 new loyal/engaging follower is priceless IMO

I'm not sure where the best place would be to post it: I don't really use the other websites too much aside from facebook. Possibly get all of your friends from your personal facebook account to re-post it for you so their friends see it and hope it takes off. Make sure it is funny, entertaining and demonstrates how it solves a problem with facebook. Maybe show pictures of people rejecting friend requests that they don't know, or professionals saying "who is this guy" and then show your site as the solution or something.

The only problem is getting your friends to repost things is a task to them and they might not want to but do because of loyalty. You can only get them to do that so many X so you gotta save that for the important stuff

The value in this trend is the possiblity of other people reposting it just because they like it
