Default What are examples of backlinking for SEO purposes?

Hey guys,

I am new to the whole area of SEO and was curious from some of the posts, they are mentioning they are doing backlinking. Could someone share exactly what is the process and objective? What kind of results will it give to you by doing this method?

Thanks...
Steven

you'll get a ton of different answers on this one...
the objective is to get your site well ranked in the search engines organic rankings. You can do many forms of paid advertising but SEO is an important tool in the long run.

results depend on many different factors. seo is just part of your overall business and marketing strategy but you will spend time on this portion as well as other factors.

now these can be changing all the time especially with the many updates that engines like google keep producing to help improve quality of search.

here is what i use or have used:

article marketing (spinning if you want to go that route)
profile links
link wheels
buying links on high pr sites
.edu/.gov links
press releases
blog commenting
forum participation (in the proper way)
social media marketing
directory submissions
video marketing
photo sharing
social bookmarking
RSS submissions

These are just some. You'll want to try to get higher PR links as those provide more link juice and there are many great paid and free tools to help automate the process not to mention outsourcing many portions of this saves a ton of time.

The key is to find the strategy that works and it does come down to your niche, target market/keyword, and most important the value you provide on your site. Also it's important to have a strategy that makes linking natural and not something where you have say a site up and immediately you obtain 2000 backlinks to your site. there are many tactics that will raise red flags with google and other engines so make sure you do your homework on the overall scheme of linking in order to understand how to either find or put together a process of doing it for your sites.

If your content/service/etc. is terrible or nobody is willing to pay for it (which you'll know from good keyword research), then the number of backlinks won't matter or if you're ranked in google.

Just some tips. I'm sure more experienced folks here will have further insight.

Joe

Link building is a process of acquiring incoming links to your websites and web pages for the purpose of gaining higher search engine rankings. Links are perceived as votes of popularity in the eyes of search engines, so they can be used systematically to achieve targeted rankings. Link building is the most important part of SEO for internet marketers.

There are 2 basic kinds of links: those with anchor text and plain links
without anchor text.

HTML example of a link with anchor text:
keyword

Like Joe said you get the links by dropping your url or anchor text:

article marketing (spinning if you want to go that route)
Web 2.0 profile links e.g Facebook, Wordpress.com etc
Forum Signature
Who Is and Valuation Sites
.edu/.gov links
press releases
blog commenting
forum participation (in the proper way)
social media marketing
directory submissions
video marketing
photo sharing
social bookmarking
RSS submissions
