Cool. If it's something that needs to be kept close to the vest, I'll be happy to exchange thots via PM. But if it's something you are OK w/sharing-- posting it here (or digging up the thread you mention) might get you some other good feedback!

    Bought "Crush It" today.

    Read it.

    Lots of great stuff!

    Default Google Sidewiki

I wanted to start a conversation about this toolbar feature. For those that don't know, it is part of the google toolbar for IE and Firefox. You can also get an addon for Google Chrome 4.

In a nutshell, it allows commenting for any site through the sidewiki and all of it is stored with Google.

What does this mean? On the surface it means anyone can start a discussion about a particular site and interact with other users, regardless if the website provides this or not. On another level, it takes control away from the webmasters and most webmasters that I have talked to about this do not like it.

Note: I think there may be some coding that you can add to your website that disables this, but I haven't actively searched for it (yet).

So what do you think? Who's side(wiki) are you on? On one hand this is a great way to help provide an additional layer of community to your website. On the other hand, malicious competition could use it to give your brand a bad name - which you will have no control over.

    Here is the link:

But to be honest, it's not quite as 'extensive' as I first thought, as that thread get's de-railed at a point.

In any case, I've added a sidewiki comment to this site for the sake of it....

    Threads merged.

I think the above items were covered in the previous thread (now merged w/yours). What additional info are you looking for?

Just an overall interpretation of the pros and cons of the feature from individuals. I should have done a search 1st. Thanks for merging the two.

Found a wordpress plugin that blocks the sidewiki:

I haven't tested this yet, but will eventually plan to.
