    Default PayPal taking back money

Paypal will take back money from your account if the person that paid you says you did not send them the correct item, or did not perform the proper service. is there anyway to protect ourselves from this? i sent someone a brand new item, they said it was used just to scam me and took their money back, and i wont get it back. Can you make sure there are NO REFUNDS when receiving money on paypal? im out 300 bucks now because of a scamer. Crazy to think people can just do this all day and make a living

Have you talked to Paypal about this-- NICELY?

    What did they say?

What proof do you have that

    1. The buyer rec'd the item, and

    2. That it was brand new?

(not challenging you, Joey-- I just figure these are the logical q's Paypal is gonna ask)

I only use paypal when I have to because I don't trust them. But for starters I would never hook it up to your bank account. Hook paypal up to your Amex. Or make a seperate bank account with like $1 in it so their is nothing for them to take.

I know people who have been screwed over by paypal and ebay and Amex took their side and did a chargeback on paypal.

On time I bought 6 pallets of stuff from a bulk seller on Ebay and paid with Paypal. The pallets showed up, and they were each only stacked maybe 1 foot high. I felt like I had been taken advantage of, so I asked the buyer to grant me a partial refund of the $2000 I paid him, or provide me more merchandise. I never heard from the guy, so I went to Paypal. Over a year later, I found my account credited with $2000 from this transacation, and without a note or anything from Paypal regarding the matter.

As an Ebay seller of over 10,000 transactions -- I've probably had atleast 100 cases where a customer complained to Paypal well beyond 30 days from the transaction date about being dissatisfied. Paypal has credited their account every single time WITHOUT even requiring that the customer return the product to me. This doesn't hurt me so bad selling $20 novelty items -- but if I was selling Diamonds or products worth $100+ each - I would be LIVID.....

Weird business practices to say the least....

Pretty much with ebay and paypal....the buyer is in the drivers seat. I once noticed my paypal account had been debited 100+ for an item I had sold a few weeks ago. What it was, someone was using a stolen checking account to make purchases. I figured I was out of the money and some fool was riding around town in a Armani suit!

I called paypal though and they did credit me the money back, so I would assume they lose out in a situation such as that.

I agree though, someone should step up and challenge paypal.

Unfortunately, this is the way these transactions work these days. Even with a merchant credit card account the stories are the same. Credit card companies protect the consumers alot more than the sellers. It is this way because a cc company or paypal needs consumers to feel comfortable using paypal or a credit card to make money.

I owe paypal 494 for a Item I purchased on ebay years ago. I told the seller on ebay it was a fake movado watch and wasn't the one in the picture. He told me to send it back and I did, I saw he received it a few days later and never replied to my emails again or gave me my refund. I told this to paypal and I dont remember the response but I had to go to my bank to get the money back. Paypal says I owe them still and I haven't used them since. This was probably 7 yrs ago.

I still have a email from them.

My experience is if you send the package with tracking and requiring a signature, they cant say it was never delivered because you have proof.

Second take as many pictures as possible of what you are selling. They cant say its wrong if you said im selling whats pictures, and they signed it when it came in saying it was the right item. Just make a disclaimer on the box to say, Do not sign unless item is as received.

Ive never had much problems with paypal. I feel they charge way to much, being owned by EBAY and all. Its a big hassle, but make sure you can prove you are right every time.
