Default How do you beat stress?

What Methods Do You Use to Relax After a Stressful Day or Situation?

I have so much going on in my life right now and most of the time I deal with the stress fine by going to the gym, listening to some music or best of all, escaping to the beach with my beach chair and my Ipod, just staring at the beautiful ocean in front of me.

What are some other good relaxation methods that work for you?

Today for the first time in my life, I grabs a cup of coffee, walked to Lake Michigan (right out my back door), sat down and started reading a biography on a person that was in the Fastlane almost 150 years ago, Joesph Pulitzer.

I spent the last 15 years only indulging in business and marketing books, however, after reading the Fastlane, my focus now is on lifestyle reading and relaxation (because my ideas on business were obliterated and changed forever by the Fastlane – thanks MJ). I am going to to strengthen other areas of my "conversation" outside of just business and marketing only. I admire and working on becoming a more "well rounding" person.

As a last resort: Get Drunk! ...Until recently I've adapted better techniques such as: yoga stretching, going on a brisk walk, reading self-affirmations, kickboxing, talking to random strangers such as woome.com

They sell some happy pills at the Vitamin Shoppe. They're mood enhancement vitamins....try them out.

Or you can just kick back and watch Tron Legacy on Blu Ray. Turn it up reaaally loud and turn on the captions. Haha..you'll get lost in the movie and forget about whatever else is going on. For the best experience, turn off your cell phone too while the movie is on. If its important they will leave a message =]

Don't stress in the first place. Break your projects down into daily bites (if your writing a 200 page book and it is due in 200 days, you need to write a page a day), do that for every project you have. Do at least your daily bites each day, if you can do more great, but you know if you do your daily amount, the projects will be done on time. Take care of today, tomorrow will take care of itself.

I know what you mean, I have literally every penny I have ever made ridding on a deal now, and it wasn't looking good for the past month, although now it looks like I'm out of the woods. Its not so fun in real life when your either going to make a fortune or go bankrupt and take a few other people with me, really not fun.

I dealt with the stress by drinking, shooting my guns, working out, and sailing a lot. Shutting off the cell phone and just sailing and drinking for awhile really helped.

I meant overall stress. Not work stress. Work is the least stressing thing to me. I enjoy my Job and enjoy working on my fastlane plans. They're actually stress relievers.

South Park (would gladly swap it for ocean staring solution if you're on).

Admittedly im pretty bad at this, but it is why i go to the gym and listen to the WSJ morning podcast every night. It helps me forget a crappy day.

Otherwise a few beers with the friends wouldnt hurt.

I play the drums. It helps...a little

I tend to take things too personal, which makes it worse. If I suggest a change at work (when I was the supervisor), to help save money, or streamline the process, and they ignore it, its very hard for me not to take it personal. I put alot of time and thought into what I do, and Im very analitical, and obsessive. So when I come to a conclussion about a change, its usually because Ive thought through all the other options, and ruled them out. In the face of new or previously unknown information, Im okay. But when they just blow me off, and dont offer even a counter-point, I take it personal.

Another thing I have done is read up on personality typing. Im not a people person, Im very introverted. Ive read 3 or 4 books about personality typing, and its helped me to understand why people act the way they do, and why I react the way I do. Im not one to go for the psycho babble bs, but when I read those books, it made sense. That took away alot of the stress from interaction with the public. Not all of it, but alot.

I have always found a sand wedge or a 9 iron the most effective weapons against stress. Of course the trick is to get stress in a corner and keep it there while you beat up on it.

So one way to conquer stress is to keep some humor in your life. It is difficult to stay stressed out when you are laughing at something.

Another method is to realize where stress comes from. It is all internal. Look around you at all the things in your life that have meaning. Where does that meaning come from? Nothing has meaning except the meaning that you assign to it. So if something is stressing you out, you are assigning that meaning. Stress is normally from our lack of control. One of the basic drives in life is to be in control. But when we feel that our life is out of control, things are happening that are beyond our control, we get stressed out.

So commit the serenity prayer to memory. When things start to get stressful, ask yourself if there is anything you can do to change the situation. If there is, do it. If not, learn to accept what you have no control over.

Give up your attachment to things. It is our attachment to things which causes most of our emotional pain. Learning to give up attachment is beyond what can be discussed in a short space, but if you will do some reading about it, you will find it very helpful in bringing inner peace.
