Ed McMahon issued a statement. How did a man go from $200 million in net worth to foreclosure?
He says "drinking." Also he had a brain injury 18 months ago and hasn't been able to work. This man is in his 80's and he has to keep working or lose his house??
Does someone have a calculator $200,000,000 divided by $6 = how many drinks?

hey guys, stop picking on Ed. Really. His bitty 50 years his junior is having it rough.
a few drinks here and there and it's not his fault.
.... seriously: (here comes my rant) let this be a lesson to all of us. Never, never. And we mean EFFING NEVER count your eggs before they hatch. If you buy a house, don't count on an extremely high paying job to compensate your butt when push comes to shove. Live within the means you know you can support. And folks, I have got news for you... (ANYONE HERE LIVE NEAR BEVERLY HILLS?) people do whatever it takes to move into that neighborhood regardless if Spears is a neighbor...
if you're gonna make it in the fastlane- do not do what Ed McMahon did: drink, gamble, work until you're 80 and spend the rest on young women. Ed's kids must be really pissed.
for those youngins- Ed was a great sidekick to probably one of the wittiest SOBs on TV... nobody has met his match to date, except MAYBE for Conan OBrien.

Agreed. You can blow ANY amount of money. I don't care who you are. I know it's not "fastlane", but you CAN live well for a very long time on moderate wealth if you're vigilant. It's cool to live large, as long as you're within your means, but yeah if you're 80 and still have to work, that's not a good sign.

I am not an expert on this (Russ and Diane probably know a lot about stars and their money) but I do know that the large amounts you hear that these people make is just one part of the story. You have to keep in mind that movie/tv stars also have booking agents, PR people, business agents, managers and countless other people that they have to pay to keep them employed and on the A list. so when you hear that they received 5 million for a picture keep in mind that after taxes and everyone else they have to pay they probably recive less than half of that number. Now not to say that 2.5 mil isnt a lot of money but if you have a $5 mil house and multiple cars and live the hollywood lifestyle it can get eaten up pretty quick.
Has not been able to work in 18 months???? He should of been able to retire over 20 years ago.
It's hard to feel sorry for anyone like this. Yeah, he got hosed in a few divorces like most guys. He should of learned from that and tightened the straps. Instead, he continues to try to live the Hollywood lifestyle and keep up with the Joneses.
He should of moved to Montana, bought a nice ranch and spent his days fly fishing. Instead, he keeps his $6MM house he can't afford, gets ANOTHER gold digger wife who is out spending his cash while old Ed is laid up with a broken neck.
I seriously doubt the house is not selling because Brit lives near there. Not everyone is a celebrity and is worried about them. And I bet those non-celebs would LOVE to have Paparazzi around. I would think it would be a major selling point for the "nobodys".

What makes Trump thinks Ed will pay the lease vs the mortgage?
Money is money ... a $10,000 mortgage payment or a $10,000 rent/lease payment ... either or, Ed hasn't paid.
It sounds like Trump is doing this out of the goodness of his heart, so he'll probably buy the place for a substantial discount, lease it to him for pennies on the dollar -- and then after Ed dies the market will be back and he can sell the place for full price and make a couple million.

EXACTLY. This is definitely a PR stunt / educated guess / future money maker for Trump. Ed won't be living forever and even if he doesn't pay the rent once, Trump is out what, $500k-$1m?
If he bought this for the right price, fixes it up over time and sells during the next upswing, I'm sure he's looking at a great return.

Plus, I'm sure there's some cache to living in Ed McMahon's old mansion. He's an entertainment icon.
Good move, Trump probably went to the bank and negotiated a deal so he is getting it cheap. When the market comes back and Ed McMahon dies he can sell it and pocket a few million. Not bad for almost zero time and effort.
