Default "How long does it take to become an Overnight Success?"

    "25 YEARS"
That is actually what a friend of mine said while giving a talk at a book store in Manhattan promoting his 3rd suspense novel. His path to the Fastlane was always writing. He wanted to be an author and he made it! He has been writing since at least high school in the 80s and he has now been interviewed in magazines and on television about his novels.
He did exactly what MJ said. He put himself out there and created his own luck. I don't know how much money he makes on his writing yet but he is doing what he wants for a living and is happy. And I think his writing gets better with each book. I think his 3rd book is his best so far.

I would put his name and book titles here as long as MJ is OK with it but I want to make sure first. He lives in New Orleans and seem to fly into NY every few months to do an interview, promote his book and visit family.

it seems like he made it to the Fastlane to me

Very true, I'm 1.5 years into my project and feel like I'm just on the brink of being an "overnight success"

One of my favorite quotes is from the Michael LeBouef book The Perfect Business:

"It takes 15 years to become an overnight success."

Also the quote in my sig is from the same book.

Which reminds me, I've been meaning to ask: why do I never see my sig, or anyone else's, in the forum?

    Thanks.

PS sorry to side-track the thread, Ive just been meaning to ask for awhile.

There are two ways to show the sigs (once you've set them up). The first is to check the box just below the post entry screen, but that just works for that post.

The second is to go to "Settings", then "My Account - General Settings". Click the box about two-thirds of the way down the page to add sigs to every post.

Just remember -- you need 50 good posts before you can add a signature section.

In order to make it...is it all who you know or what you do?

If anyone wonders of they can work hard enough and get lucky enough to make it but sometimes gets discouraged from trying, remember if it can happen for the guy next to you, it can happen for you too.
I went to high school with the author I posted above and I went to grammar school with a guy who started playing guitar when we were about 10 or 12 and now his band's first album is coming out. They are called ADRENALINE MOB. They just finished touring the Phillipines and Japan. Their album release party will be in New York soon, where they grew up. For the upcoming tour they have the bass player from the band Disturbed joining them.
So if you think it only happens to lucky people, remember one thing, luck people WORK HARD for what they want. And they could be someone you knew.
If you want it to be you next, find a need that needs to be filled and work at it!
