    Passion vs. Self-Discipline

I think you need both - if you start with something new at first you are the only one which is 110% convinced (or I should say you should be!), aren't you? So you need of course passion to set the fire in your potential customers. But when you progress and sometimes it slows down or some boring work come up you need also self-discipline to keep going and see and work for the whole picture.

So for me its not a question of *vs.* - its *and*...

I think creating a series of best practices for yourself is more important than having either of them. If you create a good "how to manual" to follow you won't necessarily need large amounts of passion or discipline.

Self-discipline, it's true action causes results, and passion only helps motivation.

    Passion.

Self-discipline will keep a person off trouble and on the track. Passion can make a person move heaven and earth.

    I'd go with SELF-DISCIPLINE without a doubt..

I'm currently working on self-discipline, I find that passion isn't enough to get me to the actions I need to do.

Even if I'm PASSIONATE about having passive income, sometimes I'm not self-disciplined enough to do all the things required that I'm UNPASSIONATE about (spending money to hire the right people, going to forums to promote different services, and even updating the very sites I love)

With more self-discipline, I'd be rich without a doubt. I mean we all know exactly what we need to do to move forward, but we ALL lack the ability to just fucking do it! (except for those who have finally broken through the barrier of lacking discipline)

self discipline without a doubt. passion is very much overrated. self discipline sustained looks like passion.

Self discipline. If your passion comes out of the window you still have this self-discipline safety-net

Since we like car analogies, how about this? Passion is your battery: you can't start the car without it. You have to WANT something badly to begin your journey. But self-discipline is the alternator: it sustains power to your vehicle for the duration of your trip. You won't get very far on battery power alone.

Self disciple works well for money-making tasks, but not as well as passion in a relationship

The trick is - I belive - that discipline creates passion, and passion fires up discipline (closed circuit)

    Said who?

    lol

I speak from experience, but self discipline can get you anything in life, and it works in relationships too. You want to maintain contact with your mother, you call her, even though you don't want too. You want to maintain contact with your brothers/sisters you talk to them too.

that's as far as I care about my family though, I don't care about my cousins/uncles/aunts at all... lol.

I think both are needed to complement and fully gain the benefit. If each being mutually exclusive, I would choose self-discipline over passion. I see passion as the fire but self-discipline as the fuel. Without self-discipline eventually the fire will burn out and you will have nothing more than the remnants of the fire that use to be. Self discipline is what keeps the fire going. Passion might ebb and flow dependent on the day or hour but having discipline will continue the progress forward.

Self-discipline anytime. Simply because a lot of successful people created their passion through self-discipline in the first place unknowingly.

Passion is an emotionally driven process, you love it. You feel strongly about something. So what happens when bad things start to happen? Self-discipline is the one that will carry you forward.

Passion is an overused word. Especially in today's self-help industry.

Just do it, and have the integrity to keep at it while the poo hits the fan. Self-discipline does wonders.

Passion appears to strike at unpredictable times. How long it will last is also anyone's guess.

Self dicipline appears to be a genetic character trait. Perhaps somewhat different than passion or perhaps not.

Either way, both derive from the chemical reactions of the brain (unless there is some literature to suggest otherwise) and thus probably strongly influenced by genetics. At the very least they would be a consequence of how an individual's genes responded to external stimulus.
