Thread: 15 tips to make you a better leader

A few weeks ago I read a book by Dale Carnegie & Associates Inc. with the German title "Der Erfolg ist in dir!".
It is basically about how to be a good leader and I got the feeling that this book has notably enriched my leadership abilities.

I thought the key-sentences of this book might be helpful for most of the people here who want to become (or already are) successful entrepreneurs so I translated them from German into English. There are likely to be mistakes so feel free to correct them!

note: Don't take all of the sentences as they are. You cannot apply all of them in every situation and some have a deeper sense you have to figure out first (for yourself).

Here we go:


1. The first step towards success is to recognize your own leadership abilities

2. Communication is based on trust

3. You cannot force people to be motivated. They must want to do great work

4. There is nothing more efficient and worth doing than taking honest interest into other people

5. Find out what other people find important

6. Nobody is more convincing than a good listener

7. Team players are the leaders of tomorrow

8. Respect is the fundament of real motivation

9. People work for money but they go one step further to receive compliment and consideration.

10. Be the first to acknowldege a fault and the last to to level criticism at somebody. But above all be constructive

11. The true leader never loses track. He keeps in view the essence

12. Constant top efficiencies come out of a balance of work and leisure

13. Take power out of the positive and don't let the negative weaken you

14. Control your worries and enjoy a life full of energy, vim and vigor

15. Never underestimate the power of enthusiasm
