Update:
Got my BD tested on the same Bodpod machine today.
BF - 15.5%
Weight - 144.2 lbs
185 kph
Or the other explanation is that I'm just awesome. I do think my original 20.3% was high. But also keep in mind I did drop 5 lbs and I'm already skinny to begin with. I bet the real figure is probably somewhere between a 2-3% bodyfat drop.
I tried to figure out if the numbers were possible. Based on the data from the bodpod. Here is what it's figuring.
First test:
Weight 149.8 lbs
Fat Weight 30.3 lbs
Remaining Mass Weight 119.5 lbs
BF 20.3%
Second Test:
Weight 144.2 lbs
Fat Weight 22.4 lbs
Remaining Mass Weight 121.8 lbs
BF 15.5%
Change
Weight -5.6 lbs
Fat Weight -7.9 lbs
Remaining Mass Weight +2.3 lbs
BF -4.8%
----------
I think the results are quite possible for someone who exercised and lifted alot during this time period. But I do doubt that I was able to gain 2.3 lbs of muscle during this time based on my lack of hitting the weights. But then again, I did just complete a 4 day, 24 mile hike carrying a 25 lb backpack up and down a mountain with very little food.![]()

Last week went well, dropped to my lowest yet (200#, 24.2%), but then started vacation. Went to Jerome, AZ with the wife and agreed to wine tasting. Threw my diet and workout schedule out of whack. This next week should be even more chaotic as I go to England for a full week. My estimation will be two weeks worth of recovery by the time I get back. That leaves two weeks for me to catch up...
Anyone else other than me, Bio, and Snow still playing?

Mike-
I see the conundrum:
For you, out of town trips mean eating, drinking, and having fun.
For Bio, it's all about climbing every mountain.
Kinda like the difference between doing Vegas and doing wind sprints.
I'm thinkin' a revised outlook on road trips is in order:
Time to make them workout heavy, and food lite.
Fer instance:
You could bike and row to England instead of fly.
This would have a pretty radical effect on your body mass.
Plus, you wouldn't be able to pack much food (boat and bike are small, and you're pulling that weight), so by necessity, you'd be eating a LOT less.
Might take you a bit longer to get where you're going . . . maybe a few months more?
. . . but you'd be in better shape when you got there!

Well, I am back... b-day weekend for me, ate like a pig (actually, I think I ate a whole pig) and gained a lot of weight. Best part is, no regrets, now I am looking at going back to the right diet. I went up to 163.0 (I beat this mark long time ago, funny seeing me with the extra 7 lbs on).
Oh well, back to it.
Mike, have fun and lots of food in your trip!

Well, I got sick last week so I decided to just eat whatever because you do anything to feel good. So I ate cookies and ice cream and pizza all weekend. I just hopped on the scale and only gained 2 lbs.
146.4. no new body fat measurement although I'm sure its 2lbs of fat more.![]()
Russ, I have the opposite vacation coming up. I'm leaving for Prague on June 2nd until June 30th. I don't envision any type of exercising going on or slow carb eating while I'm over there. I will probably be losing this competition on my next BF measurement on July 5th.
But then I intend to win it again on July 25th after I get back from a week of mountain biking in Colorado.
When is this competition over again?

Back from my England trip. Crazy trip... lots of fun though. Was introduced to the Pub. Small village bars, typically free standing and in building several hundreds of years old.
Anyhow, drank close to 40 pints of beer over the entire trip. Had to try as many different lagers, bitters, and ciders as I could. In retrospect, I think I overloaded my system because I actually dropped weight from my last measurement.
I did work out quite frequently while I was there, just didnt do a great job on the eating/drinking front. I figure that it will take another two weeks to get back in shape - I am totally open to increasing the length of the contest by another two weeks.
I updated the below info and am dropping off the folks we havent been hearing from.

Kenric and I discussed and we are officially adding two weeks to the challenge. The good news is my weight is coming down significantly from where it was when I got back. Right now rocking about 201 lbs. I will sub 200 before the end of the week and then will be cutting carbs for the last four weeks so I can embarass Billy-Boy.

Mike, what diet you following? That would be interesting, coming from an expert like you...
I am having difficulty dedicating the time to go to the gym... I will start going with a partner cause I clearly have not been doing it by myself.

A lot of it depends on your workout regimen and your current body fat.
I am eating clean, with high protein and complex carbs. Lots of veggies too. I stop eating carbohydrates after 1pm, since carbs tend to slow your metabolism down and your metabolism is slow late in the day anyways. Here is what I am eating:
7:00am, Breakfast - 5 whole eggs, 1/2 cup of oatmeal, handful of berries
10:00am, Snack - 1 cup of 1% milk, 1 scoop whey protein, medium sized apple
1:00pm, Lunch - chicken breast, brown rice, fresh melon, salad or grilled veggies
4:00pm, Snack - 1 scoop whey protein with water
7:00pm, Dinner - fish or chicken or lean beef, big salad or grilled veggies
10:00pm, Snack - 1 scoop whey protein with water
My workout is pretty simple and short, but very frequent:
Weights, 30 minutes per day x 5 days per week: biceps, quads and hamstrings, shoulders and triceps, back, chest
Cardio, 45 minutes per day x 6 days per week: boxing (intensely anaerobic - no running or biking or you lose muscle)
Getting motivated to go to the gym is always tough. You just have to eliminate the option of not going. I know it sounds simple, but think about the gym like you think about brushing your teeth, salting your food, or walking the dog. You don't think about those things - you just do them.
Have you ever noticed if you dont do those things in life, you just dont feel right? It's a total mental game because the world doesn't end without those things - but you are just inexoriably drawn to do those things.
That's how you want to view the gym. And it doesnt take long to get into that habit. Just start doing it - put the precedence in front of everything else in your life, even your kids. You will be surprised how you still make time for everything...
At the end of this little game, I will post before and after photos if I can get Bill to do the same.![]()

Its time for the update. Who has been working at their goal? I spent this weekend working in the backyard like a dog and threw off my body chemistry. I think I didnt drink enough water and retained like a mad man. Will be interesting to see where my body equilibrates after all is said and done this week.

Following up again. Last week was a little haywire as I missed three days of cardio. I did weigh my all time lowest (sub 200) but was during the middle of the day. I was outside a lot again and I think it took a toll on my water retention.
Two more weeks and I will cut out carbs for the final push.

I don't have a scale here in Prague but I am pretty sure that I'm down some weight. All I do here is walk for hours all day and I'm missing a meal here and there. The food portions are also sort of small and Coke costs more than beer. So I'm not drinking Coke that much. Who knew?
