I like CEF's for several reasons. They can be bought and sold just like common stocks (at anytime during the trading day), whereas "Open end" or mutual funds are bought and sold based on the NAV that is calculated at the end of the trading day. Management fees for CEF's are paid from assets under management and are therefore reflected in the NAV whereas management fees (12b-1, ticket charges, etc.) for mutual funds can be difficult to calculate without a thorough examination of the prospectus. Generally, the reporting on CEF's is better as well whereas most mutual funds only report their top ten holdings. Of course, like all investments, there are risks as well...
