Hello all,
My name is Peter (31 years old) and I'm from Slovenia. I can't remember how exactly I found this forum but I'm really happy I did it. Currently I work in a large multinational corporation which offers financial solutions to banks worldwide. To be honest I've never enjoyed doing my job so much that I would say "this is it!". Now I think it's time for me to make a step forward and do something I'll be really good in and people would appreciate it. Now I'm in a phase where I analize myself, my interests and talents to discover that thing that would change my life. I'm sure this is one of the hardest parts of entrepreneurship. This forum and the book I'm going to order will help me with that.
Thank you guys for sharing your thoughts and advices on this forum,
Peter

We offer card (debit and credit) issuing, card processing, POS terminal configuration and setups, ATMs and even own platforms for these operations.
What I have learned so far?
Well I began working for the company 8 years ago and started as an operator in 24/7 department where we were doing daily procedures needed in card processing, discovering card frauds, blocking lost/stolen cards and we even did a certain level of helpdesk for POS terminals for our costumers. This was a great start in a department where you learn almost everything about this business. After 4 years I became an assistant in POS department where I test the terminals, upload software, load encryption keys and do various other tests before the clients get them. I also offer more advanced level of helpdesk to costumers. For the last few months I'm also involved in a global project in some african countries but this isn't the most important I do. The most important thing I have learned doing this job (besides lots of technical knowledge) is how to manage stress, how to react in critical situations, how to deal with clients (and their clients) so everybody is satisfied and so on. If I'm honest, I've also learned how to lie, how to blame it on others to clean our company's name... but that's another story.

There is one thing I would do on my own if I had funding (time is not such a problem because I don't have a family to take care of and my hobbies can wait too). I would open a company and offer prepaid Mastercard and Visa cards because no one offers them here. It's true that I haven't done a research about it yet but I'm sure this would be a business and target population would be youngsters who can't get a regular credit card but wish to buy things from the internet. I follow a few forums (geek stuff mostly) and there are topics where people are asking other people to order something for them because they don't have a credit card. So by doing a detailed market research such a business would be possible (and profitable) here.
Hi Turboboost,
I am from Serbia, and i also think there are some members from Croatia , so one forum get us together.
I have worked on the last 10 years with fiscal cash registers, scales and some POS terminals.
Couple years ago my ex company installed slovenian POS terminals on OMV gas stations, it could be yours.
The best thing in my job (and probably yours) is that you work with large number of companies, from smallest to the largest ones. With our job we know how they operate and what are they earnings and with talking with their employees, you can get the correct picture how one company operate.
I think this is the best expirience one fastlaner could get. Because you can learn so much from theirs expiriences instead of learning on your own mistakes.
The one and the most important thing that i learned wasn't on my job, but on internet is that CREATING VALUE IS THE REAL DEAL. This is something that you can't hear in Serbia, not even find it in our dictionary (after 50 years of communism it is normally, but 10 years of capitalism after that, didn't brought that attitude)
I am trying to be a fastlaner , and this year, after of 10 years of this expirience and tryings i learned that ours countries are too small with small living standards for a fastlaner to grow big, so we must think and act globally:
IF YOU WANNA GET MILLIONS YOU MUST REACH MILLIONS.
So my mission is to make business in large developed countries like USA, Canada and Western Europe Countries, and i am designing my products especially for that markets, hoping that one would hit big.
You have better opportunity because, your country is part of Europe union, and you have large open market, which is not the case for me, until we enter the union (which would be at least ten years from now).

Nice to meet you devil 2000
These could really be our terminals. And yes, it was interesting to see how certain companies work and operate.
In my previous post I have just answered andviv what could be done with knowledge and experiences I got from my job. I think card business could still be an opportunity in our countries but that's not my first choice. About a year ago I started playing with thoughts of doing something on my own. All the ideas came from my large inventory of interests and I grabbed one. I have decided to go and develop a brand of products who were (in different form) popular for centuries in this part of Europe. Actually I will re-invent something, give it additional value and offer it to the whole world (I agree with you with that part about reaching out of our small countries). A classic plan some would say but there are chances for a big success and I will take them. I wish you will succeed and that we can stay in touch here.
