    Default Hey from California

    Hello everyone!

    My name is Ryan, 17 years old, currently a senior in High School, and living in California.
    I found this forum about three days ago from Google search and been stuck reading around every night till 1 AM. Planning to order "The Millionaire Fastlane" book tomorrow because of all the amazing reviews I've been reading!

    Some information about me.

    I come from a decent income family, currently work at Carl's Jr (fast food) to have money to spend and not depend on my parents so much. When I was younger I always wanted to open my own business type of thing. Working at Carl's Jr motivates me to even work harder on being my own boss (my district manager is an asshole who yells at us for being to slow while he stands there. Being slow = being over three minutes). Also my class Economics really interests me about demand/supply, investments, prices, government, interest rates, and currently learning about how the Financial Crisis happened. So I'm trying to do all the research I can right now and hopefully one day reach one of my goal, which is own a Lamborghini before I'm 30.

    Some of my questions for now

    Am I to young right now to get into these things?
    Are there any other really recommended books other than The Millionaire Fastlane?
    Most common mistakes people make?
    Tips?

    Hopefully I am going to learn a lot from "The Millionaire Fastlane." I'm really excited to buy it tomorrow.

    It's 1:30 AM right now and I should be sleeping for school tomorrow. Will check up on this thread soon!

    Welcome man,

    Sounds like your on the right track. Looks like your pretty hungry. That's great man I can remember being the same 6 years ago.

    I had this huge problem tho of not executing ideas. I would get excited about doing some project and then run into blocks or get distracted and move on to the next project.

    Recently I've been lucky to find something (a topic) i have always like to talk about and then trying a project based on that passion.

    SO the take away points are ...
    *stay hungry
    * see things through
    * Do what you enjoy
    * Finish high school, then go enjoy college, then go and enjoy the world. Or skip the first 2 conditions and just enjoy the last. (not for the weak hearted tho).

    Be xothermic,

    Rob

    Well, much better to be "too young" than "too old"! Just a word to the wise... read the book and DON'T ignore the advice about DON'T just do what you enjoy, start a business that meets a need for a wide audience. Also, it's all about DOING - there are millions of big thinkers out there with a lousy 9-5 job, can't pay their bills, but swear they are smarter than everyone else. Ideas are a dime a dozen, if that. Implementation is where real entrepeneurs seperate themselves. Good idea - huge potential customer base - implementation. That's the basic formula from MFL with lots more, of course.

    btw, my very favorite tone from MJ's book is the debunking of the guru idea of "do what you love". As he says, for most of us, NO ONE cares about "what we love" , they don't buy "passion". Consumers are very selfish - they care about THEMSELVES. Satisfy their need or eliminate their pain - that's what they pay for. So think along those lines starting at the age of 17 and how can you NOT find a need to fill along the way?

    I wish I were 17 again and looking for the fastlane type ideas. Good luck. Don't get trapped into the slowlane - or worse yet, the sidewalk many Americans never leave. I an a financial adviser dealing with mostly fairly well-off retirees. I can attest to the theme from MJ's book that working 40+ years to MAYBE retires comfortable ... then find old age saps your strength, health, etc. is not something to aspire to! Better than retire poor.... but still not something a 17 year old should plan to sign up for!

    @XOthermic Thanks for the welcome! I will always stay hungry, I have big goals to accomplish. Thanks for the tips, I'm actually excited to go to college right now even though I know it will be hard. If I could just skip college it would be awesome but my parents would kill me... But yeah, really appreciate the tips will keep those in mind!

    Off-topic: You live 30 minutes away from me, located at Elk Grove here.

    @Lumpy Man your post is great! I learned about consumer needs in Economics this year and it matches up with your post. I received the book this week and was only able to read 2 chapters so far because schools been giving tons of project before finals week. Hopefully the book will give me tons of ideas that I can plan out and execute. I appreciate the post, Thank you!

    Hi nayR,

    Welcome to the forum, it's great that you are young and hungry! I was once your age knowing that I wanting to do something bigger in my life. Besides fitting the monotonous 9-5 that's ingrain into our society, I no longer concerned about having outstanding grades after I successful completed my 1st book "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki in college. He set the path for me to think about business. Although, there's a lot of fluff in his books, he definitely laid the ground work between his biological poor dad and his successful entrepreneur rich dad (who's his best friend's dad). I also recommend Napolean Hill "Think and Grow Rich"; I call him the godfather of using your mind and staying positive in reaching your goals.

    My advice for you to attend college only for the networking opportunities. Surround yourself with the movers and shakers! Join Entrepreneur clubs and seek a business mentor.

    To me, ideas are like atoms in the universe, abundant and plentiful; it takes a cosmic magnetic energy (you) to attract particles (other people and talent) to execute your vision. Then, an explosion will happen! POW! BIG BANG! You'll soon will hit the fastlane road to success and riches.

    Best of luck!
