Hello!
My name is Marcus Ramsey and no I am not related to the slow lane guru Dave Ramsey, but I have read his book. I am about to be 18 in a couple of weeks and I’ve always been a Active entrepreneur, not just a kid who uses it as a excuse to not get a job and play halo all day. In 2009 I read a article about a company called 1-800-got junk, I thought it was a amazing story how the guy made so much on something so simple. One day I realized that 1-800 got junk was not in my local area and this type of business did not exist in the county. I did not act on this realization for a couple of weeks because I thought there was a reason for that, but I kept seeing huge piles of junk and old cars in peoples yard. I also remembered all the junk that hurricane ike had produce when it flooded local towns. I decided to explain this idea to my dad who helped my get a enclosed trailer to haul junk as long as I paid him back. I spent what saving I had on signs, uniforms for me and a friend who decided to help and some tools for cleaning junk. We started receiving a couple of calls per week and we were in business! The Business went very well and I paid my dad back in 3 months. Over the course of the next couple of years we partnered with a local moving company, we even got a couple commercial projects. Since then I have been able to save $22,000 dollars and I recently got out of the business and gave it to my friend who helped me start it for 10% of profit in exchange. My friend has a guy working under him now and I make about $300-$600 bucks a month, which is not much but considering I’m doing nothing besides giving advice every now and then I’m happy.
Right now I currently have a part time job and I’m working to become a manager soon. But my mane project at the moment is a Surf wear clothing brand I’m working on since I love water and surfing. I’m currently working on the website which is not done but you can check out what I’ve done so far at Dorsal and yes its going to be way more than just t-shirts. That’s where I’m stuck. I have drawings and sketches of all types of clothing that I want to create, but its hard finding manufacturers and getting samples etc. My current goal for this company is to design and produce a whole line of action wear clothing and eventually go to the magic trade show in las Vegas. Everyone I’ve shown the site too really likes it and tells me it has a lot of potential, but I don’t know if there blowing smoke or giving me a honest opinion so I would love for people to check it out and tell me what they HONESTLY think about it. Thanks!

Welcome fellow Texan, I'm in Houston. Impressive what you've been able to do at your age.
Regarding your site, I won't candy coat it because that what friends are for right ;-) The site loads incredibly slow on my laptop. Granted I don't have the fastest connection in the world but I'm not on dial up either. Perhaps it's just me so run it through a site that checks page load time. Slow load times is something Google will penalize you for.
Looks like it's all flash. Flash is great in small amounts when embed in an html page but it's dam slow when the whole site is flash and by going with all flash you just eliminated all the people on iPads and iPhones.
I'm confused by the photos on the site because I see guys in shirts with stripes and gals in swimsuits yet I don't see any of the items for sale.
Sorry to be blunt because I'm sure there's a lot of time and money in that site but from my viewpoint you've already handicapped your biz with the way the site is set up and that's a shame.
I hope my post or replies are helpful. Thanks in advance for Thanks and + Speed Reps!

Hey mj!
You probably have a point there the market is huge and mainly ruled by big companies like Hurley and Billabong but then i looked at all the other start up clothing brands, and they were plane and had nothing to offer, not the slightest bit of creativity in them. I feel my brand could stand out from the start ups and be successful. But Im not sure, this could be flawed thinking.
You sound like me. I had a mobile auto detailing company. I worked out of the trunk of my first car, a crown vic. I was the richest 16-18 year old ever haha. I had weekly jobs detailing at a few used car dealerships. That made me a ton for someone with no living expenses. Everyone else was flipping burgers or picking up range balls.
Welcome to the forum dude! Good to have you here!!

Hi domular!
thanks for the REAL feed back. the reason the site is all flash is because I made it with wix. Im not a code wiz (although I wish i was). the reason for the site was mainly to give people a feel and direction as far as branding goes, when I ever get to the point of actually selling items, this site will not be in use. The reason you see people in swim suits is because those are one of the mane items im currently trying to develop and if i ever find the right manufacturers and get the brand actually going then i will have these items for sale.

Hey kak!
that is awesome! I hope your other ventures go well. Im not sure if i want to go to college, I've been hearing allot of negative things towards it lately, and i know how long it took me to make that money, would hate to waste it.
Ill put it this way, dont let it get in the way of your plans. Don't go if you have to pay anything for it. I have learned more from experience and my business degree isn't going to mean jack to me when I am out because i have my own company. It was 120 grand of BS. It was paid for from my dads estate. He passed away when I was 19. He wanted me to go to college so I did, I am not in debt for it though. College is not worth debt. It is probably a decent thing to go experience if it's paid for.

Gotchya. Hey since your interested in the clothing market I highly recommend Sharktank Daymond John's first book Display of power From The Mind of Daymond John – Entrepreneur, Keynote Speaker, Branding and Corporate Strategist, TV Personality and Author » Display of Power: Synopsis. It's his story of how he built his clothing line FUBU from nothing. I remember him talking about the Magic Clothing trade show but couldn't afford the booth so they took buyers back to their hotel room to show them samples.
I hope my post or replies are helpful. Thanks in advance for Thanks and + Speed Reps!

Hi, Marcus.
The site looks good. It has a modern, yet professional look to it. It loaded fine for me, but I have a fast connection. Being an artist myself, I was really focusing on the graphics. What you have is good. I only felt that one design was weaker than the others. The rainbow chalk scribble with DORSAL over it lacks visual interest. It's a good concept but needs some work. Overall, though, the site is nice and you seem to be off to a great start.
Best of luck!
