Lets get right to the point, I've got work to do.

-I have a negative net worth right now
-I don't have the greatest credit rating
-I don't have a budget in place for my income
-I work a dead end 9 to 5 job for now

A short time from now I want to look back on this list and laugh. To accomplish this I need to make some positive changes in my life. I need more structure in my day to day activities. I've got to stop wasting time and learn how to set and achieve goals. I've read a lot of books on self improvement and goal setting, but I never apply what I learn. I am in my mid 20s, and I realize it's not the end of the world. The problem is, at this rate I am not going to accomplish my dream of financial freedom, ever. It's time for me to stop making excuses and more specifically, FINISH PROJECTS that I start. I'll be the first to admit it's hard for me to finish something that I start. Whether it comes to books, verbal commitments, or business projects, I feel like until I learn to start what I finish I'll never become successful. I talk the talk... and yeah, you know the rest. I feel like I approach business the right way. My ideas and potential aren't holding me back, its my effort. I need a good kick in the ass, and I am hopeful that the fastlane community will put their right foot forward.

Welcome to the fastlane IAB. Sounds like, to me, that you aren't uncomfortable enough. Seems like you like the sound of doing something better than actually getting out a bustin it. You are going to have to get a big enough why to overcome your lethargy. Good luck.

I think you nailed it. I've lost touch with my WHY's and became complacent because of this. Thanks for the insight, your analysis was spot on. Its funny how clear things become in hindsight. Here's some speed for ya!

You're young brother, there is hope! When I was 26 I was living with mom ... pathetic! Observation of your current situation is a great first step. Thanks for the great intro - hope to see you around!

Thanks for the speed guys. MJ is right, you are young.

Let me throw a "why" attcha to see if it will help. Right now I am a 51 year old dad of a 19 year old college daughter. I used to be heavily wrapped up in my life until she was born. When I had to go on road trips after she arrived it bummed me out. My why slowly shifted to, "I wanted to have enough control of my time to allow me to fully participate in the raising of my daughter."

I was taking an evening engineering course at the local college. Every evening I would call home and check in(before cell phones guys). One evening my kid tells me she wants to learn how to ride her bicycle now. She didn't have to say it twice. I left class, went home, and taught my kid to ride her bike. I was there for her first words, steps, day of school, band concerts, and anything else in her life. It was important for me to raise my kid.

The combinations of my businesses and job allowed me the flexibility to do this. Even today I would drop everything and drive 3 hours one way to hear her play in a concert. She knows it.

I have another monster why but I don't want to bore you.

My point is, get past your "NOW" and look for what you want 5-10 years from now. Design that life. Kids may be your why. Fast cars or big houses may do it for you. Look at the man in the mirror and see your why. You are better than where you are now.

    I wish you well.

    Thanks for the encouragement.
I read your story and applaud you for your move to Arizona, very courageous.. and it's just what you needed at the time. I'll be around here for sure, this place is just what I need. It's time I kick things into gear!

While your WHY'S are exponentially more important than mine, I've been jotting them down since your post and it's paid some immediate dividends. The main reason for myself is to alleviate the stress and burdens associated with a lack of income. Once that happens I could spend my time pursuing my hobbies, growing as an individual by traveling and experiencing other cultures, devoting more time to myself and things that will improve my sense of self worth, and enjoying what life has to offer with no restrictions. It's time to kick things into gear! Thanks for your thoughtful response, it put things into perspective for me.

Hey I know exactly how you feel. I've got a billion ideas but I can't execute or finish it through. I feel like I could be so much better if I had the mental stamina and drive to finish what I start, or better yet, get started on something.

I'm still looking for a solution for this eternal struggle, but I';ll let you know if I find a cure
