Google doesn't like to see copies of anything, but it shouldn't hurt you too much (if at all) to use their descriptions. Anything you can do to add to the descriptions or change them up a bit will help though.

I've been lurking here for a while but have never signed up until now. I am designing my first dropship website. The dropshipper I am using has very nice elegant descriptions for each product. My question is: If I use the same descriptions for products as the supplier, will Google Penguin penalize me? Will this hurt my SEO? I don't have the time to come up with unique descriptions for over 100+ products and it would be much easier to use the suppliers (and more informative to the buyers).

so if I make minor changes you believe that will help? Sadly, I have seen some of my competitors use this same source also with the same descriptions.
What you can also do is generate unique META TAGS by using your domain name + the item name. At least your page will have a unique TAG in this case.
