Default I want to make a Spin off of craigslist

but do it in the housing industry.

    My competition are rentals.com, homes.com, rent.com(owned by ebay), rentalhouses.com, sublet.com...

what should I look out for as I begin to make my first steps into this market...b esides consumer/agent needs and frustrations?

There's a world of things I need to look into. I've decided it's worth pursuing, so just some things to consider in my planning and while I'm executing would be great.

    =) thanks

Craiglist's rental section is probably your biggest competition. I'm sure the apartment rental section on craigslist gets more traffic than all the other sites you listed. As a matter of fact myself and all my close friends have found our apts on craigslist. Competition is tough but if you can make it easier than cglst and build a user-base, then you will succeed.

How will you monetize it? CL only charges for these types of ads in a few select cities. Most cities are free. Will you follow suit? I personally think CL is missing the boat in a lot of areas from a business perspective. I think they could double or triple their income if someone other than Buck and Craig were running the show. Of course, they are doing just under $100 million dollars a year with less than 30 employee's and I'm not so what the hell do I really know!

Yea I'm gonna make that shit better. My mom's in real estate and she's always got complaints I listen to. So now I'm setting out to solve her problems and make an ocean worth of cash in the process, while getting her more deals in the process. She can be my guinea pig haha. he and her friends.. no joke lmao this is gonna be great.

One thing to consider will be (1) how will you get your postings on a regular basis, and (2) how will you deal with frenetic markets like Boston/NY where listed properties on Websites are often outdated?

Searching for housing online is totally broken. I sincerely hope you fix it. hotpads.com was pretty cool, but a lot of the data was stale when I used it last.

thanks for bringing this to my attention. the thing is that I've figured a way to benefit advertisers on my site but not exactly how to benefit the people searching for housing. I've been thinking about that.

What are some other problems with searching for housing online?
