    Default Experienced website developers look.

I am paying for a website to be made. Whenever i give simple tasks to my developer they come back slightly wrong, simple tasks are not be executed properly. Also in the text sections there are words such as

lorem dolar sit vel porta ante mattis vitae ipsum

when i asked what thAt all was he gave me some random reason, i did not think anything of it.

Now i realize it is probably being subbed out in india for 10 bucks a day. This language would confirm that, is anyone familiar with this language? thank you

That's a common text used by many web programs for demonstration purpose.

If you install some PHP content management software, they are the default paragraph in the system.

Yea this text is just a random ass text. I don't think it's any language at all either. It's just a placeholder so you can see what your site will look like with text.

I just had my site developed also. Exact same thing. Not a big deal. It's just placeholder text used by programmers I think.

The text is no big deal. However, the fact that you give them a simple change and they screw it up is a huge flag. I would move forward cautiously.

It's a derivative of Latin, and yeah, a huge number of templates etc use it as placeholder text (and pre-internet it's been fairly standard as placeholder text for typesetting for several centuries) as others have pointed out. It's just to give you an idea of what the page will look like with text on it, rather than being completely blank.

More than likley it is the way you are communicating it with the developer if you are trying to manage your own programmers. I mean no offense here, but it is most likley the issue, not to say that the dev can't get it together as well.

The text is just random text that you can go to a website have generate lorem ipsum and then copy and paste it into the design to show the client what the will look like in a certain spot. My advice for the two cents that it's worth would approach with caution if they messing up little tasks, you probably wouldn't want to see the aftermath of a large task.

Developers talk developer language and owners typically do not. They also will only give you what you ask for. They do not know what your future plans are and if you have any, you need to be sure they understand exactly how your site is to flow. If you cannot articulate that, they will get it not quite right. Simple tasks need to be articulated so as to not leave ANY question.

Get a flow chart to them of HOW your site is to function and ask A LOT of questions. Part of the reason I do web development for beginners now is because of my experience with developers. But most of the issues I had was because I did not speak developer. My benefit was that I did think like them. Even with that though, if the owner does not know exactly what they want it can be very difficult and completely frustrating.

@wildambitions ditto. There is a communication problem. Take this as constructive; but it's either

    A) if the developer is messing it up, it's probably because he doesn't know what you want because you aren't making your proposal correctly.

    or

    b) if the proposal is down to the very cracks on every detail; the developer is deliberately not doing what the proposal is calling for.

If you say "I want a red website with blue buttons" and he makes a red website with blue buttons but you don't like the layout; who's fault is it? Not the developers; he did what the specs called for. If you leave alot of specs open for the developer to make on his own; don't expect to like it 80% of the time. Hence why 99designs.com was born.

JamesF - that is exactly what I meant.

In most cases, it is not really the developers fault... actually it is no one's fault it just, is. Most of the time developers want to deliver what is called for.

One thing that I found when I was the owner and using developers was if I was not able to explain what I wanted the developer would do something close. I found myself compromising in a lot of areas and the end result was NOT what I wanted. The whole thing kind of morphed. A good developer will ask YOU the questions and when you don't understand, ask questions back to be sure that you understand. Use words that YOU know and the he/she can understand and reword things 2 or 3 times to be sure there is NO confusion.

If it is something beyond the developers capability, they should tell you or point you to who can help you, not talk you into something they do know how to do. Unfortunately there may be many developers who are afraid to admit what they don't know.
