Geez. I can only imagine what I was doing at 18 (certainly not planning my financial future). You're probably going to be one of those millionaire 20-something year olds we read about (if not before). Excellent vision and great site!
Hey everyone,
I started a non-for-profit company back in October, and after getting necessary paper-work done, recruited some help to get everything off the ground.
The company is called Go Green Teen. It is to spread awareness about the waste we produce on earth (completely bi-partisan....no politics here, don't worry). The niche is teens because our generation can make the necessary change and educate the generations after us.
The Pioneer Press is releasing a newspaper article about my company in three different publications tomorrow (I will post pictures if anyone is interested), so I figured I would give you guys the scoop.
Anyways...the reason I am really excited to have it going is to be able to help other kids who can't afford school get to school. Any, and all money the company makes from T-shirt sales/advertising/state grants will go back into the community in the form of college grants (this is a good resource for some of the youngest members here, and of course the members who have children). We have already netted a profit form the sale of 300 t-shirts/adsense.
I'm only skimming on some of the details here, but if anyone is sincerely interested just ask away and I'll check back in this thread.
I have a bunch of other (personally profitable) company ideas in the works, I just wanted to do this one first because it felt right.
Please let me know what you think. The website is still being tweaked, but suggestions are very much welcomed!!

Thanks for the compliment NoMoneyDown. They always keep me inspired.

If what you did yesterday seems big, you have done nothing today.
Looks like you created a website that could do a great deal of good! Way to go man! Good-luck!
Very nice!
As they say, "you must give in order to receive". If that holds you, you should be receiving your dividends in the near future!
Good luck and rep+++!
Oh yeah, and seeing other younger guys succeed at a young age definitely helps motivate me (I'm 17).

Very slick, Alex!

I love the site. Good idea with slick execution. How do you plan to drive traffic? And what do you intend to do with it?
Also, the gray text fields kind of turned me off after the happy, green graphics up top. I'm no expert, but I thought I'd throw in my first impressions.

Great idea.
Who is the target buyer? The parents? or the teen?
The color and layout is too plain for teen. I know you are just getting star. Teen are more picky!
Thanks Luke, I hope it does just that.
Thanks Yankees! Glad I could help motivate you. I try to motivate all the people my age that I meet, some just think we are too young to worry about anything yet. haha.
You have the right idea already though from reading through some of your posts.

Thanks BRKb, appreciate it!
We have some pretty good SEO already embedded in the site, as well as a bazillion Meta tags. We are executing a pretty strict Google friendly plan. "Go Green" is one of the most searched phrases on the internet...so we plan on working our way up to the first page of search results through SEO and tons of back-linking. Also, we have more interviews coming up with some major publications that will give us a bunch of unique visits.
You and I think exactly alike on the gray fields. We are changing them to match the forums now to a more minty green. Hopefully it will look nice. Thank you for your feedback! I appreciate it a lot.
I'll be sure to keep everyone updated after major tweaks.
The teen. Parents are welcome too, and we have had parents buy shirts. But teens need to show that they are interested in this. We are not an IN YOUR FACE Green Peace organization lol (not hating on anyone though). We are normal kids with other goals in life, we just know that this is definitely something that needs to be looked at. It is as simple as unplugging your cell phone charger in the morning.
The color is and layout is supposed to be business professional...but I definitely get where you are coming from. I know teens like things that move/sparkle/wow/ooo/aaaahhh and lots of graphics. We will continue to integrate and make the page feel like it has a lot of things going on.
Thank you for your input Terence! I will definitely keep everything in mind at the next meeting we have on Monday.

I love the concept of your site!

1. I can't find your t-shirts. I looked around your site, and it said to go to the forum to order one, and I didn't see any place to do so.
2. Is the domain gogreenteen.org available? I think the .org would carry more weight than .net since your site is non-profit.
3. You may want to put up a calendar of upcoming green events in different areas. I would think it would be both good content and help to promote your message/get readers involved as well as be good for SEO.
Just my .02.
Great, great idea. Sure beats what I was doing at 18!

1.You are completely correct on the T-shirts. We had a temp page in the forum that got deleted. We are in the process of setting up a Cafepress account to sell all of our merchandise. Thank you for reminding me!
Anyone have any imput here on Cafepress or the best company like them to use for merchandise management? Otherwise we will continue to run things on our own, processing orders through paypal and shipping them out.
2. The domain is available. I had thought about registering it, and never came back to the idea once we got wrapped up in getting the site together. I will deifnitely register it now though.
3. Our tech guy is working on a functional real time calendar. Hope to have it up and functioning soon!
Thank you very much for your input and the compliment!

My suggestions:
1. Work on the coloring below the pictures. Everything seems to run together. The problem with that? People scan when they are surfing....not read. So you want people scanning each update to your website and processing the information easily and quickly. Right now, things jut blend together. I think using a better color scheme would solve this issue.
Also, the subscribe form at the top needs some reworking. At first glance, it looks as if one of your links are not showing up? It is actually where I should put my e-mail address in. Maybe moving this to a different spot on the site would make more sense?
Just my 2 cents. Good start!
I was thinking possibly making the scheme a 2px wide dark green borden, and using white as the filling background color for the blog. Not sure yet though. We will mess around with some color schemes.
And I definitely agree with you on the bar. We are going to put a media logo in place of where the white e-mail bar and subscribe box is, and move them up to most likely the very top of the page.
Thank you very much for your feedback and suggestions!

Alright, many of the changes suggested have been added to the website! Please let me know what you think and what else still needs to be changed!
