Thread: Internship "Businesses" What's the verdict? Scam or no scam?

So recently I've seen a lot about these business that offer great earning potential for college students. Apparently they target freshman and sophomores at university in hopes of them earning 40k plus over a summer or semester. The only positive things I've been able to find about them seem very scripted and faked. A lot of youtube videos have hate comments on them and their just seems to be a dark cloud hanging over them. One these businesses is Springmasters as well as Student Painters which I have seen advertised in my area. Most of these things seem to use guerrilla marketing techniques, flyers, pamphlets on windshields, etc. in high traffic university areas. So my question is if anyone has worked in or knows anything about these types of businesses. Are they good or bad, scam or not? The whole thing just seems kind of sketchy?

P.S. I'm not interested in participating, just wanting to learn more.

Off the bat, sounds very scammish to me.

I detest these things, as I've been in the position where you're just seeking legitimate employment only to be greeted by some sort of scam/mer.
