Default Tell me about my new site!!

    Hi all,

I just created a site: Uniformed Guards

This is a lead generation site for security companies in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I started just in the Halifax market to test the platform out and see if there is a real market for this service. I plan to expand across Canada and to the U.S. Any reviews, tips or anything you think about the site would help. I tried to keep costs low just to test this idea out!!

    Need to polish your copy.

Your FAQ needs work; the second paragraph starts with a question but ends with a semicolon. You should make this a bullet list with the questions clearly formatted in bold and the answer below.

The YouTube screen capture on your home page does not inspire confidence. A guy with his shirt unbottoned and tie undone pointing his finger is a bit off-putting.

Your three buttons on the home page are not linked, but the text below is. Make the buttons link.

Your blog should not be "Hello World".

YouTube video is in default 240p, should be set at 480p so people don't have to change it, for a security site, I would imagine a guy in a suit or security shirt or something and probably talking a little calmer, IMO would seem more inviting/professional but you can always change that down the road

Congratulations on getting this far already, we know the work it took to get to even the point. Good Job!

Congrats on getting your site up! Stay on top of the details though, for instance your site title says "Uniformed Guards - Just another wordpress site".. not so good my man. Polish the copy, get a better quality video, maybe one that doesn't look like it was filmed after a night out at the club, and if you aren't going to be using the blog or haven't updated it yet, get rid of the stupid "hello world" it doesn't speak well for your professionalism, think about perception, how will customers perceive these seemingly small details.

Too be brutally honest this site took you 2 hours to make... max

It might have taken much longer, but you get the point.

The thing is I understand that you are excited and congratulations on taking action. However, this isn't something we can critique only because the pointers are very obvious.

If you still have the default "hello world" post, you invite people to address that right of the bat.

You don't want people telling you the obvious, nor do you want people wasting their time telling you the obvious.

Now other than the little quirks that anyone could poke at, I will mention that the video you have on there is very unappealing.

I want someone that has apparent authority convincing me that they will get me the best possible deal (and that includes a number of things)

    such as:

    1. You should look corporate or in uniform
    2. You should have someone talk about the industry and name common problems (i.e. property managers have tons of problems with security companies)
    3. Give me free pointers on what to look for (convince me you know more than me)
    4. Don't use slang and be professional

I would like to request that you get back to us when you have implemented the recommendations. We have lost a valuable member recently because of people asking for advice, receiving it and then us never hearing from them again.

Hope that helps and good luck!

    Hey everyone,

thanks for all of the advice! This was just a 'soft launch' to see feedback from people. I have to fix the obvious- grammatical errors, update the blog, make the FAQ more professional, site tittle etc. I really appreciate all the feedback!

It looks like the video isn't too popular. I paid someone 5 dollars to make it on fiverr.com. I will have to pay a bit extra and have a professional video done when I launch this outside of my province.

The reason I kept it to just Nova Scotia is to figure out little issues such as customer complaints about the way we provide quotes, follow up on jobs, dealing with security companies etc.

Keep any feedback coming and i'll update this thread when I make the needed adjustments!

Ok everyone- I implemented a lot of the suggestions you gave me and fixed quite a few things up. Uniformed Guards

Take a look at the new version and give me even more feedback. It will have to be constant improvements.I have made this site Canada wide now. This is an untapped market in Canada. My next steps are to hit the social media hard, keep the blog active to try to draw users to the site and learn everything I can about SEO to get traffic to the site.

    Thanks again!

    Very clean site.

What do you think of moving the dropdown of event type to the left column of the form? I didn't see at first.

    Good luck!

Whole lot better! The video looks a lot more professional now.

First off, I hate websites that start talking to me as soon as I launch it. Don't let the video autoplay.

Make the "Get a quote" button below the video more of a call to action. It's a small, wall flower button that is afraid to play with the other kids. You need a large, gregarious, "How the hell are ya? GET A QUOTE!!!" button instead.

The three circles with "Tell us your security needs", "We find you the best price", and "Hire that company!" should each link to a FAQ of some kind, perhaps three different ones.

Tell us your security needs: Give some examples of events that might need security. You may get visitors to realize they've got other situations that would benefit from security that they never considered.

We find you the best price: Tell them about your position in the industry (if that's a selling point), tell them how many security companies you shop and what qualifications those companies have

Hire that company: Talk about the hiring process, what they can expect, what the security company would expect (payment terms, etc).

Hope these suggestions are useful to you.

    Thanks again guys ..

Not sure if this is allowed on the boards or not, mod if not, please delete.

Im selling the domain uniformedguards.ca. This means all the content, domain name and everything else. It is not profitable but has potential if someone has good SEO skills. Its an untaped market and a proven revenue model(lead gen). If interested msg me privately!

i like the idea... will it work.. depends on how do you plan to drive traffic to the site (how much will it cost)? what percentage do you expect to buy? How much do you expect to make per lead? Halifax is a small market... does not seem like a great idea to test there...

Its Canada wide now. I did just start it recently. I am in the midst of starting my new business and also have a conflict of interest in the security market.

To drive traffic to the site I think SEO will be important. Customers typing in security guards Canada or uniformed guards. Social media will also help, I have twitter, youtube and facebook set up just havent launched them fully yet.

Per lead I was torn on. With no experience with lead gen, I was think 5-10 percent per lead depending on the amount. An average job would be aprx 250.00. 10 percent of that would be 25.00.

The bigger jobs are the malls, car dealerships, property management companies etc. Those contracts can be upward to 100,000 and thats where you want to score. I would be willing to sell any percentage, over 51 percent.

It appears that all the advice that you put to work paid off. You really have a rock solid site. I would just start building some links and sticking with it, unless you need some cash.

If you need cash and want to sell it, create a twitter account and a facebook page to go along with the site. Both are free things, but a pain in the ass to set up, especially if you don't do it often.

Any revenue you can generate from the site generally will increase it's worth, I say stick with it if you can. It's a solid effort, you deserve to reap the rewards.
