Something I have struggled with my whole life is that many ideas I have are so big that they are bigger than I know what to do with. By this I mean I wouldn't even know how to make a plan of attack because then next 15 steps allude me.
I see many other threads started here with the same problem facing the folks starting them.
So, I decided to benefit all come to the collective wisdom of the forum and get advice on how to handle these. In situations where you have no idea where to turn next, what do you do?I hesitate to give examples because I do not want anyone to get bogged down on the examples, but I also find the can lend clarity. I will give a few. Please do not focus on the specifics of the examples if possible but an overall strategy for addressing these bigger than life ideas.Right now I have an idea. There are companies in the space right now. Last figures I saw had the lead company at $180 million in sales per year. Not sure the other 2. I use the leading company. As a user and talking to other users, I know my idea would steal a large portion of share from each of the others, but I have no idea how to go from idea to reality. Here are some real world example, but the first is somewhat fictionalized.1. Assume 10 or so years ago I worked at McDonalds and got angry that I had to buy a new car charger for my phone everytime I got a new phone. I had an aha moment and came up with the idea for the universal car charger adapter. (if my 10 year ago assumption is incorrect, adjust the timeline to when this actually happened). Now, I work at McDonalds, so my connections are very limited in the cell phone charger space. I hear many people making the same complaint, so I know there is a need.
Where do I go with it?
Do I take the blue pill, go home and play playstation and forget about my glimpse of hope, or is there a strategy I can employ to make it happen?2. A few years back I had an idea for a reality tv show. I have no connections in this space so nowhere to turn with it. I took the blue pill, but what was my alternative? How could I have taken the red pill?Again, not looking for specific advice for these examples but for a strategy one can employ to get to those specifics in situations where you are so far removed from anyone or anything that you are aware that can take them to the next step. Thanks and I hope this helps others as well.

When I started my fastlane journey, one of my goals was to follow advice I remember reading from Robert Kiyosaki...essentially, chase after big problems and find a way to solve them.
One of a few bottom-up issues I'm tackling is eliminating the need for student loan debt in America. Now before this was even a fathomable pursuit, I had to learn about the root of why it is the norm for students to seek out student loans to finance their education. I had to ask a question that occurred to almost no one to ask: why can't anyone - regardless of background or circumstance - finance their education out of pocket? Asking that question was the beginning of uncovering the answer for me. Before you can find the answer, you have to know the question, then you must understand why itis the question. This has to do with getting to the root of the issue. One of the biggest problems people have is they cannot see what the problems are for being distracted by the symptoms. Many of the initiatives to solve some of our nation's problems merely address the symptoms of those problems rather than the problems, themselves. Before you can move forward, you have to know the difference between a problem and its symptoms. Student loan debt is a symptom of a problem in our country; it is not a problem in and of itself. Poverty is a symptom of a problem in America; not the problem itself. The very existence of the Slowlane is a symptom of a problem; not the problem itself. With the complexity of our culture, I had to peel back layers to get to the meat of all of this.
Problems we all believe are unsolvable can be solved and you as an individual - because you are an individual, because you are a human being and you have value - are more than capable of delivering the solution. The way you begin is by:
- Identifying the symptoms, then understanding the problem they sprout from
- Understanding why the problem exists
- Creating a plan to address the problem while treating the symptoms
- Find a way to scalably and profitably find and deliver the solution - this involves building systems (and I don't just mean business systems)
What you are trying to do is VERY difficult. This is why some problems are believed to be unsolvable. I've been pursuing ideas bigger than me for years and understand the crossroads you are speaking of.
"Don't wish for fewer challenges; wish for more skills".
Proper goal setting would help...
Meaning - begin with the end in mind. Start from the END and work your way back.
As they say hindsight is 20/20. Take a trip in the time travel machine and figure out
the step BEFORE the end result you want. Then before that, and before that...

I have this problem too.
I look at some of these "big" companies and wonder how could someone start any of these today.
For example, I was researching a company that performs welding on oil rigs. How would a startup be able to secure contracts in this niche without any contacts or experience.

What Kung Fu Steve said.
"Don't wish for fewer challenges; wish for more skills".
There are lots of companies that are just as big - making just as much money, but you aren't hearing about them.
So they have contracts and experience? What is one step before that? And then one step before that? ... and one step before that? Eventually you will come to the part where "hey, I bet I could do this today and get started on this track." Then you just follow your own steps that you laid out.For example, I was researching a company that performs welding on oil rigs. How would a startup be able to secure contracts in this niche without any contacts or experience.
It's not really the how that holds people back, but the fear. Try stuff and see what happens. The sun that shone in our fathers time is the sun that still shines on us today. Things haven't changed as much as we'd all like to think.
