Default FILLING NEEDS (Medicine):Would you use this service?

PROBLEM:
The rates of diseases in our society continues to rise at a stellar rate. Yet we never hear of any cures for these diseases. Sadly enough their are many alternative doctors and thearpies that have been praised as miracles, with little to no exposure.

The only thing you hear are from patients testimonials. The unfortunate reality is their are ways to heal even the so called incurable conditions ( cancer, diabetes, obesity, impotence, old injuries, etc ) naturally in concert with your body's innate healing ability.

Why don't we hear of them ? No one who makes billions ( drug companies, politicians and investors ) or millions (doctors, CEO's , charities , investors , elite class members , etc ) of dollars yearly would be pleased nor promote non drug or non patent therapies to eradicate diseases. You would help save lives but you also dry up profits (that go towards your lifestyle).

I am not trying to be a conspiracy theorist as most may believe. It's quite understandable, we never hear about cures just the problems (disease ,healthcare costs and more drugs , which never heal you). The science is their but its neglected and debunked for various reasons , some I have already mentioned. There are millions of people worldwide who are sick (or given a death sentence) and deserve the chance to at least know all their options and make an informed decision.

I say even if medical science would classify the success stories (which they diagnosed and then said there is nothing else that can be done) as isolated or misdiagnosed cases, doesn't everybody deserve that chance ( its an opportunity though, not chance as they put it ). Everyone's life is important and deserves to exercise all
their options as they choose.

Another set of problems are as follows:

a)Rising healthcare costs
b)Economic downturn has left people with less income to spend
c)Inadequate health insurance coverage
d)Long waiting periods for procedures which could be critical
e)Expensive costs for certain procedures

SOLUTION OPTION (A):Alternative Health care Directory

We have more people taking advantage of technology to exercise choice in our lives. We want to know who is looking after us and what alternatives exist. The site will help people navigaet their way in this confusing and fragmented field- with thousands of professionals, diverse and sometimes conflicting approaches, and varying levels of training and experience.

The main goal is to help you select and contact the professional you need based on clear and credible information.
This site will be geared towards the various doctors, clinics and treatments that are healing people in the alternative
health field. This will not be marketed as a cure for your disease, as I realize this could leave the site open to lots of legal problems.

It will be marketed as alternative treatments that have the potential to help you survive and thrive from your current state. Many people with an open mind will have a life changing and life saving experience as others have done.

To be self sustaining here are the options(tell me which you would prefer if you were using the service):

a)The doctors pay to be on their,as they will create their profiles.
b)The doctors pay a referral fee upon getting business via the site
c)The patient views the profile but pays to see contact details
d)Combination
e)Set up the trips and accommodations, then charge a fee included in the total price(this can be stand alone or an additional option for clients)

Challenges:

1.Marketing - Get people to take it seriously while minimizing legal conflicts.

2.Cost - How to apply the charge and how much.

3.How to package it - consulting,referral,etc.

SOLUTION OPTION (B): Medical Travel Site

This online consulting website would provide information about hospitals, charges, traveling & accommodation logistics to patients from countries abroad. Alot of people are interested in low cost medical treatment with a vacation in other countries, but don't have much info on whom to contact or how to proceed. This site will be filling this need. It can be marketed towards high end clients or to bargain hunters seeking quality.

Quality would be of major priority. Only safe accredited and reputable institutions would be featured. This is used to help ensure safety, quality and an enjoyable experience. This will alleviate the things that are normally disadvantages to medical travel. This would allow searches in various medical specialties.

Challenges:

1.Finding a niche of value - maybe combine romance partner finds or dates on visit, or another unique feature setting it apart.

2.Fierce competition - so many sites similar to this out there.

3.Marketing - How to market it better than the others

if you really want to pursue this and make to differentiate yourself, make it pay per cure. Only pay if you are 100% cured. it would remove most of the lack of trust for such claims.

I hear you, something to consider. This concept doesn't seem to get a warm reception. I will just figure out how to present this idea on my own and make it happen. People have the wrong idea of this post, maybe a fault of mine not wording it correctly previously. Its my fault,no biggie I'll figure it out.

Thanks

I would not doubt you MJ. I am not debating that I have some lessons to learn. That's why I'm here.
I am trying to learn, I accept any advice you got. I am striving to fill some needs and create great businesses that create value. I know the needs are there (whether people realize it or not) ,its about direction.

I am not biased towards other post, just feel frustrated and incomplete of not being able to complete some ideas that will be valuable. But hey I respect your advice and welcome more of it. Thanks for the taking the time out of your busy schedule.

The goal of the post is really about direction. I have the concept,I know it will provide value. I just would
like some wisdom from others on the forum. I want to get feedback on how an efficient model
would be to present the service to provide the best value at an appropriate price(money model).

How to package and present the info basically. I have Ideas but just need help with the development. I am being
honest, I have the ideas but no clue on the ways to implement execution.

Honestly, I think the idea of a holistic treatment directory is a great one. I know if I was diagnosed with something--anything, really, I would like to know all my options. For example, just the other day I had a good friend call me crying who went to the doctor for her anxiety. She was immediately given a prescription for an anti anxiety medication and after reading the side effects of the meds, she decided she couldn't take a drug where the side effects were what they were. She felt she had no other options but to suffer through life falling apart at the seams and having panic attacks. We talked about "alternative" methods of coping, such as mini meditations, different centering exercises, journaling, assertiveness, etc. She didn't realize that these things could help with anxiety. Now of course she could google something along the lines of "medication free ways to cope with anxiety" and get some direction, but to the best of my knowledge there is no one site where different types of strategies are all combined under one roof.

I know if I had something wrong with me, I'd like to know all available treatments. I wouldn't expect them all to work 100% of the time, as nothing ever does--but I'd like a condensed list of at least where to start. I'm totally down with a list ranging from juicing to chemo and everything in between. If something helped one person one time I'd like to know about it. Even if it only helped with symptoms, I'd like to know about it. I would be okay with doing my own DD on anything that I came across. It would also be nice if this list had a ratings and reviews.

If you do move forward with this idea, just start small, start free (perhaps wordpress) and get your toes wet. Like anything else, there is a large learning curve. Think about the bare minimum functionality that your site would need and let your target market shape the rest.

The direction is simple. Get a customer. An idea is worth as much as a customer is willing to pay you. If you can't get a customer to pay you, the idea is worthless. Next.

It's really as simple as that.

You understand perfectly what I am getting at. Presenting options that have worked with varying conditions. And even if it worked 50% of the times, that could be lives saved or changed for the better. You are on point. Thank you for your insight.

I like the idea too simply because it will help people who are suffering find alternative easy to find solutions that they can choose from in the health industry before making an important decision

An initial strategy to tackle this is to offer everything for free at the beginning until you start getting good amout of traffic and a considerable amount of users in the database. After that you can charge only the professionals for leads (not registration just per leads) and keep patients using your service for free.

I also agree with yveskleinsky when he talked about reviews and ratings as an important part in your website development requirement so that people can compare and select what best suit their needs with the highest ratings, which also create a valuable service since professionals will be competing to have higher ratings to show the value in their services so that they can get leads. Elance for example is a basic model for this functionality but in a different niche.

You could also have SEOed articles pdfs videos podcats to make it even more valuable and informative as well as search engine friendly.

If you decide to tackle this, I think it'd be best to discuss this with a lawyer before going full throttle!

For inspiration and ideas, check out Sicko by Michael Moore documentary Sicko (2007) - IMDb

Have you searched for, found any similar models/competition that does this?

Good idea & keep us posted of your progress

Like, NOW.

There is no tomorrow.
Start a PoS webpage NOW.
Then make it prettier.
Then add another page, and now you can call it a website.
Then make it better.

Yet start. Now.
Even if it's just

Our Directory!

Stuff will go here.

Start.
